Naked Honda Fireblade on the way?

Honda reliability is 20th century marketing. The MC (and pretty much any manufacturer of consumer goods) manufacturers have something more to face than a few pissed off consumers, the interwebs. Even if a single bike has a problem, which they will, the owner is on the webs trash talking the hell out of the product, usually even before they try to resolve the issue. You don't survive at the top end of any market if your product has a real or perceived deficiency. At the low end, it's a different story, you just blame the shit quality on the Chinese and buy another.

Other than the Africa Twin, I'm having trouble thinking about any "truly worthy competitor" Honda has released for awhile in the medium to large displacement street bike category.

Did you not read all the rave reviews and comparos of this year's CBR?

Perhaps they've taken all the years of underwhelmed moans & groans to heart and have begun a new phase... sure hope so.

Except that the bike is; 1) under powered vs the competition, 2) the traction control is linked to the ABS system and uses the front wheel, 3) has been completely disastrous as a race bike in the UK thus far?

It's a great bike when ridden in a vacuum. But against even its 2 year old competition? No, especially at the price.

The reviews point all of this out, but they say nice things about it regardless because they need to maintain the access and the ad $$$s.

One thing going for it is the CBR is really light and the naked version should be even lighter. Not the most powerful but power to weight is still in the ballpark. Especially for a naked street bike version, minor differences in peak power output aren't particularly meaningful. No idea about the traction control thing.

You know, I hope so too. Honda has a great history in motorcycling. Operative word here is "history."

Yeah, the new CBR is supposed to be good on the street. Was it Rob Muzzy who said "any slow bike handles well?" I think so. No, no, the CBR isn't really slow, especially for street riding. My point is it takes more than "nice" today.

And what did Honda do with such fabulous bikes as the VFR? (killed it) What happened to the ST1300? (killed it) Years of no improvements with the CB1000R.

One half assed attempt at a retro CB1000. Skinny 18" wheels you can't get good tires for. Less than 5" of suspension travel (really??), small gas tank and still 540 pounds of shiny paint job. Yes, it's good looking. But Honda used to be so much more than that.

Please Honda. Come back from the dead

......another naked 150 mph+ bike, we don't need. Honestly, riding without a fairing above about 125 is just awful. In fact, riding highway speeds for any length of time on a naked motorcycle is rather tiresome.

Bump up the rear sprocket by about 12 teeth and drop a couple from the front. That should take care of it. :thumbup

Honda won't do it til after they come out with BNGs for the NM4...

Gotta satisfy the customers they wish they had.:thumbup

Seems like it is awfully late to the party, and judging by the Fireblade disappointment, I doubt this will be competitive with the already OVER-saturated naked liter sport bike segment. Enough, already with these things. At least this picture shows an excellent exhaust like the Fireblade. Honda's exhaust is the cream of the crop. But, another naked 150 mph+ bike, we don't need. I prefer naked bikes on the highway, only one bike with a fairing That actually worked for me(no buffeting) was my '85 k100rs.Above 70 that fairing just pushed the air around you and was smooth as shit through a goose.

Most of my bikes have been naked so I might be biased.:thumbup

Thank you for another thread that justifies my sending money to bman and generally hanging out with doomed reprobates. There are very few places where people can pretend to know about stuff, joke about it, and still seem half way sane. Just stay out of the Kitchen Sink or all bets are off!!!!

Come on down so we can hear you better.
Did you really take it that way? Wow, I thought I was being congenial and humorous. Okay, well, I guess I will have to watch myself more closely since some barfers are just hypersensitive about their "special snowflake" threads, apparently.
