Nation-wide climate strike by students

I find your post fascinating.

Not sure what that means, but its not MY idea that kids need the room to just be kids without the pressures of adult issues. There will be plenty of time to do adult stuff when they eventually become part of the adult world... some time in their 30s by the look of it! :laughing

The kids that were forced to grow up too soon, take life too seriously etc, are they better adults? Or do they end up miserable because they missed some critical kid development time? Look at kid tv/music stars, better or worse? Lots seem to express regret for having missed normal childhood (whatever that means). Admittedly not all of them, but it seems that plenty struggle. Extreme versions end up like Michael Jackson, or Linsey Lohan or Brittney Spears, or Charlie Sheen... a bit messy to say the least.

I cant really tell if this Greta girl is enjoying her life. Most of the photos i see show her without a smile. She seems caught up in this thing. Did she go to prom? Has she had a crush? Learn how to drive? Overnights with her girlfriends? Play in the sand at the beach? Ya cant get that shit back...

She is not representative of most kids her age. As she says herself, her mind doesn't work conventionally as she is diagnosed with Asperger's. There are certain things she doesn't respond to and it may contribute to the stony demeanor she has kept when others are trying to add levity. I think it has served to make her look like the only adult in the room in some settings.

As for the participants in the rallies worldwide, it doesn't appear they're being forced into anything. The message is getting out and they are choosing the care.

Or maybe kids can still be kids and also give a shit about things that will affect their future?

What you said does not seem to have anything to do with what I said, and you seem to be having your own conversation without me. I am not sure how to respond to that.

You said that people get the gov't they deserve and I don't believe they do since we have no say in 99% of what they do. They're like fast food, looks pretty awesome in the commercial, but totally not what you're going to get and you never know how far the actual product will differ from the ad on any given day.

[Eldritch]Right, and since we know this and aren't doing anything about it, we deserve it.[/Eldritch]

Hell no, not for my kid. Keep your butt in class, you can't afford to miss any school with those grades!

It's dope tho. This is could be catalyst that gets young people motivated to vote and actually participate in more Civic action. Maybe 10 15 years down the road a lot of these kids will learn more political theory. Some of them will actually get weapons training and a lot of them will vote.

If you elect someone and they misbehave, it is your fault for electing them. No different from if you hire a shitty staff person to work for you. Their shitty performance is your fault.

Pretty much. Action has consequences, as does choosing inaction. People don't have to go along with either, but if you make a choice to act or not act, you're just being a bitch if you cry about the results after you make your choice.

Everything is your fault, three fingers pointing back at you and all that.
At the end of the day everyone should kick themselves in the balls for the mistakes of those around you.

In his movie Gore predicted that sea levels could rise six meters (20 feet) with the melting of the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets.

Gore also claimed in his 2006 film that by 2016, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa would be snow-free and that weather would worsen, with stronger, more frequent hurricanes. Yet these, among other predictions, never happened.

National Geographic Peak Oil in 2006

Another scare-and-hide prediction came from Rajendra Pachauri. While head of a United Nations climate panel, he pleaded that without drastic action before 2012, it would be too late to save the planet. In the same year, Peter Wadhams, professor of ocean physics at the University of Cambridge, predicted “global disaster” from the demise of Arctic sea ice in four years. He too, has gone quiet.

Do you have anything to add to what you copy/pasted? Pretty disingenuous to not even credit the source. I’ll do it for you: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2018/08/07/failed-prognostications-of-climate-alarm/

Critics: but al gore the non scientist politician said this!

I feel like all I have to do is wait a few minutes and you'll see how silly and illogical that all is, but...it's been hours so I dunno. Are all crimes a person's parent's fault? Are speeding violations your driving instructor's fault? Are math errors your math teacher's fault?

How many levels deep does this fault go. Would the mistakes of the appointees of the people you voted for also be your fault.

Your cab driver strikes a pedestrian while driving you to the airport. Wouldn't have happened had you not called for a cab.

I hope they all walked or rode their bikes to the protests.

I think that only applies if you vote for them again, then you are 100% opted in.
