Nation-wide climate strike by students

Highly doubt he's looking for help.
He is comfortable delivering his opinion even when unpopular, and has a particular style of posting. :dunno

It’s fascinating to see how insecure and threatened grown men act when they witness a young female being a true leader, who has a clear cause, who doesn’t flinch in the face of threats, ridicule, and bullies.

I find it fascinating that other grown men and women would let a16 yr old little girl direct WORLD POLICY. sure why not right? :laughing. " well, the grown ups arent doing anything!" Gimme a break. You let a 16yr old little girl decide what color to paint her bedroom, and then regret it. NOT THE FATE OF BILLIONS OF PEOPLE.

The grown ups "arent doing anything" because its highly complicated, and it will be a lot easier to fuck it up more, than it will be to even slightly make it better. What she is talking about will cost trillions of dollars, without the slightest assurances of success. But at 16 she cant contemplate costs or consequences of changing the life of every person on the planet. Fuck that, i want my room pink with sparkles you stupid adult...:laughing

This has nothing to do with feeling threatened. Theres nothing threatening about a childs intellect. But you be influenced by her teenaged leadership skills all ya like. :rofl. She threw a temper tantrum in front of the frickin UN, and "you" thinks shes some sort of genius. Now THATS fascinating. :laughing

I've noticed that narrative is being pushed a lot by the right; that's she's "directing" world policy.
A speech or two is apparently all it takes to gain complete control of Global Environmental Issues.

:rofl

Also, you are 100% wrong about it being nigh impossible to fix anything and would likely fuck up more things, than it would be to make it slightly better. That's ridiculous on its face man.
It's like you're purposefully ignoring basic science in favor of talking points.

Oh oh oh and then the subtle dig by saying that people think she's a 'genius'. Nice parting shot bro. :thumbup

Your insecurity is showing.

Everyone who has posted so far has stuck to the topic of climate change in this thread. There are some who are pessimistic or cynical about the effectiveness of protests. Personally, I cringe at people using words to spread anger and/or fear about any circumstances.

Differing opinions make a good discussion. What I see on this end of the thread is that are people accusing others of being insecure. Being insecure adult males, specifically. Okay, if that's what you want to do.

You want to know what knowledgeable adults are talking about, google Bloomberg Global Business Forum, which took place yesterday. It addresses the global challenges. The solution to climate change cannot happen without innovation, investment, collaboration and public-private partnerships.

In the adult world, it takes collaboration and planning before action. Incentives and money make things happen.

I didn't watch so missed her suggestions and world policy directives but the reasons grownups aren't doing anything is because of greed and short sightedness more then because its complicated. They don't want to give up the comforts and conveniences they've gotten used to.

16 is not too young to realize adults have already fucked the planet.

Wow, people have gone way off the reservation with this one.

That 16 year old girl isn't deciding and influencing the vote, she is symbolic of all of the other teenage kids who are aware that their forebearers have been terrible stewards of the environment (and finances, in the case of the US) and is just one of them who is speaking for many.

I strongly suspect that she has had many conversations with her peers and they all agreed that they need to speak up about the harm that is being done about this world before it's too late for the world they will inherit.

Demeaning and maligning her for invented slights is a shitty tactic and one that has been used many times effectively by politicians to undermine truths that they can't directly refute. It's a lack of class that is being applied when somebody on here utilizes the same tactic IMHO.

I just listened/watched her UN speech, and heard an articulate young woman speak, not a little girl "throwing a temper tantrum". However, the beginning was fairly overwrought and theatrical, which is a little off putting.

Overwrought is probably the wrong word, because I agree with her, that we are likely facing a mass extinction scenario, that might be prevented, or greatly mitigated, by taking aggressive measures now. These measures would decrease our current level of comfort and convenience, which is why there is resistance to it.

Agree in a way, i and a lot of others resist life altering change, knowing full well that some people arent going to comply. What i mean by some people is 600,000,000+ chinese and indian people, might as well add Africa too. Every american could go full Amish, yet 2x that many people want electricity, their 1st cell phone, car, house. Good luck telling them that they cant have stuff cuz, well... WE decided that its bad all the sudden. Its unrealistic to think that the 3rd world is going to skip from where they are to woke environmentalists, bypassing all the regular steps inbetween.

How about this - "you" start. You. Stop using your phone, and your car. Stop using all those greedy things that make your life what it is. No travel, no Starbux or Safeway, get a garden you greedy bastard!

You dont get to flip my world upside down without doing it yourself first. Start by showing us heathens how it works, how its better, how effective it is. It should be apperent if you are right, and then it will be easy to get the rest of us on board. We all know thats not going to happen, and the proof is that no one has even started doing it themselves in any effective way. Lots of talk and blame though from people who havent changed a thing.

And finnally, ask the parents of any 16 yr old if their kid has ever proclaimed its the end of the world because "Jenny wont talk to me" or they arent allowed to go to some party. The sum of their experience just doesnt lend credibility on these issues. Go be a kid, please. Your time to run stuff is later.

We've been aware of Climate Change for literally decades now. Plenty of time for planning and money to enact changes if the powers-that-be actually wanted change to happen. Innovations are waiting for investments but unless it's going to be as profitable as coal oil and gas it's not going anywhere.
The very first step of plan 1A is to wean ourselves off fossil fuel and you can see what a non-starter that is. Hurr durr you're posting from a computer so you're a hypocrite and I'm gonna laugh when my sweet sweet truck exhaust blows yer librul tears away hurr durr.

That's kind of like saying that parents that don't want their daughter to get pregnant should put a chastity belt on her.

Draconian suggestions over something like this are way, way over the top.

People who want to see emissions reduced aren't and never have (aside from the lunatic fringe nutcases) suggested that people give up everything, just to make an effort to reduce their emissions and for companies to make changes that will reduce emissions, but that is asking too much for the businesses for whom any reduction, whatsoever, to their bottom line is something to be fought tooth and nail with every tool they have.

It's always good evidence that somebody doesn't have a good counter to an argument when they attack the person rather than address their message.

99% of the swedish population is rich and priveladged compared to most people :laughing

he parents economic status doesnt discount her message, which is essentiallty "science is real" lol

i cant believe a teenage girl says "science is real, act and plan accordingly" is controversial :laughing

There disposable net income adjusted is almost $10k less than here. Their "better life" index is only slightly higher than here.

These marches are a joke just like collecting likes on Facebook for shooting victims.

If you want to change something, start with yourself.

Boycott anything and everything made in China, for example.

How many people would be doing whatever thing if they're quiet about it versus spreading the word?

They need to do what every movement does to drum up support. Sell supporters a plastic rubberised wristband to show you're onboard.
