I spent the weekend exploring central and Eastern Nevada. Highlights include Kingston Pass just outside of Austin

We rode also section 5 of the NVBDR--it's the long one connecting Austin to Elko.

And from Elko, we explored Lamoille Canyon

Wow, sounds like we passed like two ships in the night, we were staying in Austin as some, ahem, complications, prevented us from making it to Elko, we skipped that bit but did Austin to Tonopah, Tonopah to Beatty and then Beatty cutting over to Primm yesterday. That pass out of Austin (or into it for you) was certainly damp 😆

dang, you guys racked up some miles. wouldn’t occur to me to include Austin NV and the Ruby Mountains and Sherman Pass on the same adventure trip. :thumbup
It was a fantastic ride! But yeah...I was asleep before my head hit the pillow last night. 😄

When I traveled US 50 the last couple of times, I was amazed at the greenery. It's still scrub in most places, but green(ish) scrub. Didn't wonder why we were in drought conditions on the west side of the Sierras, all the water was misplaced on the east side.

Last year, a bad tire caused a detour to Elko from Ely. Most memorable part of that ride was how close a side road came to the base of the mountains. From my perspective, I've never looked up so vertically from the bottom of a mountain.

And the ridge had some snow. Looked like sand traps. Started envisioning a mountain links course that would be rivaled by none in difficulty. Call it Mountain Ridge Golf and Country Club. Drive far, chip carefully and lay-up all putts!

Must have been the altitude. ;)

Ssssssshhhhhh

I'm going to report your posts so they get deleted

First rule of NV desert riding is....

It's too crowded for more riders to learn about it.

Lol.

😄 You're right! Nevada: nothing to see, move along.

Exactly. Just cut it out, strat! No more photos, no more stories...just zip it! NV has been my personal playground for 10+ years and I want it to stay that way, dammit :x
There is nothing to see there and the riding is dumb. Borrrring! :zzz

Also, I rode my SV when it was brand new through Harrison Pass, Ruby Lake NWF, Lamoille, and all over that corner of ugly ol' boring Nevada! :love
(Edit: My SV was new in 2005 so that means my love affair with NV has been going on for almost 20 years, not 10! I'm old...)

Man... you all are selfish. Share the love :twofinger

Nevada? Best kept secret in the West!

Not anymore!! Thanks a lot, pal! :laughing

I'm so glad you had a great time there! It really is a rider's paradise. One of the things I've always enjoyed about it is the true remoteness and utter lack of humans. I've gone a few days there without seeing another person. I'm sure we can all kiss that goodbye now that the BDR has put it on the map. Same with the southern OR goodness. I've spent a ton of time riding all over NV and there is still so much left to see! Check out the NW corner of the state sometime. The Sheldon NWR is sublime!

Now I'm having second thoughts about selling Nancy :cry . I rode that pass out of Austin, there's also a ton of hot springs not to be discussed. I spent a lot of my 50's riding that NC700x all over Nevada and CA. Thanks for causing me emotional pain and reigniting a longing in my heart.

Nevada, must be boring if you can ride an NC all over it.

here’s a pic on the way to Jarbidge, NV, in 2008–the “low road,” I guess, with Matterhorn Peak.

in the spirit of “Nevada, f-yeah,” we go to Cedarville, CA, almost every year—which isn’t NV, but you can see NV from there:

End of Pavement Rally … Cedarville, CA August 9-11th 2024

it’s a Ms @two wheel tramp and Mr @CrazyCooter thing, show up or don’t, and ride NV, if ya want.

I actually ride through NV to get to Cedarville, sometimes. a group of us at the ‘23 EoP Rally rode High Rock Canyon last year, and I caught a NV trout ona dry-fly. anyway, if you are reading this, you’re invited. because Nevada, f-yeah! :laughing :ride
