New nice car?

It really depends what's important to you.

The R/T is fast, but the interior is trash.

Really depends on if you get one with an upgraded interior. I haven't been in a base build model, but my Challenger is loaded. Leather Seats, sunroof, heat/cool front seats, etc. The build quality is nice. Nothing shakes or rattles, seat stitching seems sturdy and clean, nice details like the illuminated cup holders and door trim. I expect a Charger would be similarly put together if you get an interior upgrade.

trust me, really sit down and think about the small things. you wouldn't believe how many customer i get that tell me, had they known something about their car, they would not have purchased it.

Talk about the seemingly insignificant small things. It bugs me when driving anything that doesn't have a grab handle over the drivers door. I use it maybe % of the time I'm driving but if its not there it bugs me.

Also the speed of input with the infotainment system. My current car drives me nuts when I'm trying to key in an address at a stop light. It won't accept keystrokes as fast as I can type. Then the light goes green before I get the address keyed in and I'm now locked out cause the car is moving. Press a button and wait a second or more until I can press another one. Its like a fucking computer from a hundred years ago.

I'm sure it's actually pretty good. I admit that i am biased, given my experience in automotive.
I remember I wanted to get my wife a Ford Fiesta ST. but couldn't find one to test drive. so we went to the ford dealership and got in a base model fiesta just so she could feel the seating position and controls layout. absolute trash. the plastic molding on the steering column was already crooked and falling apart. and this car was showroom. Redsix has a Fiesta ST and the build quality inside his is much better than the base model, from what i've seen.

There's some Elon spunk on your chin, bruh. :laughing

Not really.

Model 3 satisfies all of OP's requirements and is arguably better than all the other cars listed in this thread.

Can easily do there/back to Russian River and is by far the best road trip car with Autopilot.

Between taking an ICE and our Tesla for road trips, we always take the Tesla. So much smoother and more relaxing. Also, the glass roof is pretty epic too. Everyone loves it.

The repair times are a huge issue though. That said, my insurance covers a loaner so it's a moot point.

Golf R.

Go drive one.

Then pick out the color you want, and thank me later.

/ my only issue with the Golf R and why I don't have one as my daily beater is the lack of sunroof in US models.

and it's made in Germany, unlike all the other Golfs.

Funny that you bring that car up. I actually just bought a '16 GTI for my wife. While it doesn't have a few things that I really, really wanted in a car. For the price, it ticks nearly all the boxes. Mainly, how usable it is, hatches are just so versatile!

Well, dude, that is a Fiesta, that is a super economy model Car. They are built around being cheap. I hear the ST is a different animal though, similar to the Civic vs. Civic si, but all the same, the price point of sedans we are talking about isn't in the same ballpark.

The MQB platform is very refined and the ea888 motor with DSG is a dream. It's a great car, and very fun to drive. Best thing about them is the refinement and quality. The window switches are pretty much identical to my 2018 S5, and everything is well thought out. It's a lot of car for the money. As I mentioned, I can't recommend any other new car in the $40k range that gives you the kind of driving feedback and versatility.

If you have $40k to spend and you want a car that's super fun to drive, incredibly comfortable, wickedly practical, and can comfortably carry four 6'2" adults, look no further than a six speed Golf R. There really isn't a better all around car at any price IMO. The entire car is wonderful, but it's the adjustable suspension that's the jewel of the car.

EDIT: Just noticed Stan23 already mentioned this car. What he said.

for sure, you are correct. i was just comparing the differences from base models to their high end counterparts.

Subaru's interiors are dumpster fires compared to the rest of the market. You're paying all the money for drivetrain.

Not really. They aren't as nice for the same price point, but they are not as dismal as they're often made out to be.

That said, FUCK CVT's in the cornchute. Absolute, hands down deal breaker for me, and if I remember correctly, Subaru has gone CVT across the board, save for the BRZ and manual Imprezas.

I disagree. We just bought a Forester Touring for my daughter for college graduation and the interior is actually quite nice, particularly the seats, which are really comfortable and supportive. Overall features are impressive and the ride quality is good. The only thing lacking in the car is motor, the 2.5l NA motor is pretty anemic.

I wouldn't own one of them, but I'm impressed so far with how good it is.

Eh. My lady was convinced she wanted a Subaru when she was in the market 2 years back. Sat in a few models, thought, "this is pretty nice." Then we made the mistake of going to Mazda, and were like, oh... THIS is what an interior is supposed to be like. :laughing

My dad has a Forester and it's a great car... but for the money you can get something that is a much more pleasant place to be in.

The new ones are much nicer than the last model. I still wouldn't even consider one and I tried to talk her out of it and offer her something nicer, but that's what she wanted. If you're outdoorsy and into camping, skiing, etc., they're a really good choice.

I agree about the Mazda interiors. I was really impressed with them when I looked at them a few years back. The rest of the car, not so much, but they were better than I expected.

new corvette about to be revealed in a few hours

Sadly, I think it's going to be disappointing. I was hoping for a real styling departure with the mid engine, but the camo cars just look like the last model with the engine moved.
