New Tires on a new stock bike

1400 miles on a OEM BT-016 and it has falling apart?
How many miles any tire lives is directly proportional to "how and where the bike is ridden". Simple as that!

The exact same tire, on the exact same type of bike, can live for 5,000 miles for Rider A, and be down to the wear bars in under 2,000 for Rider B.

If Rider A is a newer rider doing mostly city and freeway, and Rider B is hardcore knee-dragger doing mostly all twisty roads with rough pavement, it's apples and oranges to compare mileage-to-wear rates. :(

Mostly ridden only on backroads (most with fairly abrasive surfaces), the front Bridgestone BT-045 tire, that came as OEM rubber on a new style Ninja 250, was treadless on the sides ..... and needed replacing ..... in only 1,600 miles!

The OP is a fast / aggressive rider. I am not at all surprised that after 1400 miles the tires are done.
 
I've been researching tires lately cause I'm going to need a pair soon. I found the 2 tires with excellent feedback are the Michelin Power Pures and Pirelli's newest line of Hypersport tires called Diablo Rosso Corsa (Prev. known as Diablo Corsa III).
 
I had those tires on my stock 600 gsxr and i lasted 6000miles with about 3 diff trackdays at RFR and it still had meat left on it....

FYI, I burned through my Diablo Rosso Corsa rear in just over 2k miles on my Superduke. Of course it was almost all twisties and I am a big fellow who tends to flog it a bit. That said, I really liked the tire. Great grip, though a little slow to warm up on street rides.

To save money I had a BT-023 mounted a couple of weeks ago. So far I am REALLY liking it. I am not the fastest guy out there, but I'm not horribly slow either. This tire has plenty of grip and is hardly showing any wear after about 600 miles of pretty had riding. Amazing....
 
I have also been surprised how quickly I've worn out Bridgestone BT-014s and BT-016s - fronts worn out in under 2 K mi. Using BT-021s now, seem to be holding up well. The last set of Michelin sport-tourers I fit on my FJR are finally due for replacement over 10,000 miles into the mission - the variance due to compound and construction is amazing.

So my bike, a Kawi ZX6R now has 1400miles on it. It is fully stock. It came with Bridgestone Battle Axes. I took a look at the rear tire this morning and the thing has zero life left. How can a set of tires only last 1400miles. So I was wondering what new tires should I mount up.Ever tire has their goods and bads. I hear the Dunlops are sticky and are a great tire, but you go through them like cheese through a goose. From what I've read they have a different center compond then the side walls just like a Michelin. Now the Pirelli tires have allways been great to me but I've only ever used them on my liter bike. When I had a gsxr 750 i used to run Michelin H2's hard compond front and rear. And they worked great. There again that was 5 year+ ago

Since I haven't bought a set of tires since 04. I have now idea what the tire of choice is. So after reading report after report on tires in magzines and on the net forums. It looks like the Michelin powers are the way to go.

Please tell me your thoughts on what tires i should buy. I'm just going to be riding on the street and riding the twisties when i'm not in the hospital. Thanks in advance for the input:thumbup

anything off the shelf is better then the OEM crap rubber. and all the OEM rubber that have the same names as their over the shelf brothers has different harder compounds.
 
OP said center of the tire is peeling off. I don't think that's from agressive riding on the track or moutains.
 
I did not like Dunlops. Pirelli profile feels much more natural to me, and I've found the Diablo Rossos have more than enough grip for the street (can easily run a B-group pace at the track) and superb wear rate (mine are about 70% worn after 6000 street miles and 4 track days before I had dedicated track wheels/tires).

Crazy. As I said above, I've gotten excellent wear from a Rosso 180 on my R6. Big twins are notoriously hard on tires, but 2k is still insane...
 
Ohio, the Rosso is the ST tire, but the Rosso Corsa is the new hypersport tire, replacing the Supercorsa III I think.
