New to me BMW K1600GT

I got to ride one a couple of weeks ago. I`m really warming up to the idea of buying one now. Im still trying to get past those ugly mirror appendages. I HATE the mirrors. Maybe next year bmw will mold them into the fairing?? Congrats on your new ride.

Maine?

I 'll bet you could jet all the way to Maine and back over the weekend, why not?

Congrats!

I was actually thinking about one of these for me and the wifey when I get closer to retirement. Sat on one the other day and it just felt huge. Never ridden anything remotely that big and looking through the windshield instead of over it felt really weird. Bike looked and felt amazing though.

She's a big girl, but she knows how to dance. :teeth
The thing is that the weight and size just disappear once you get under way. That's the beauty of that chassis. The motor though... Oh baby! :thumbup

Congrats on the new bike!

Misnomer. Fairing vents.

Yes but with a wet t-shirt under my Darien jacket worked quite well.

What were the add-ons? It seems that thing comes pretty loaded!

Bike came from dealer with these packages installed at factory:

Audio, Comm., GPS Prep PKG, $1395.00 add on

Safety PKG $995.00 add on

Luxury PKG, $1250.00 add on

Total MSRP on bike was $25,035.00 from sales order

The following was added to bike after delivery:

Engine Guards by Ilium Works, Price $375.00 price from web

Highway Pegs by Ilium Works, $259.00 price from web
Garmin BMW Motorrad Navigator IV, $1,000.00 price from sales order

Top Case with lock cyl, $1609.75 price from sales order

Total accessories added $3743.75
No way I would have paid to add some of the items.

+1

Curious to know your MPG results.
Did not get the full trip, could not figure out how to reset trip at first. Next tank I got 38 MPG running at 75+ all slab.

when's your first trackday with it?
Don't hold your breath for a track day. Maybe a Lee Parks school.

The motor is really something on that beast. Like nothing else. I got a little spaced out listening to XM sat music on the highway portion of my ride from Carmel Valley to SF.

Found a K1600GT on Ebay and won the auction. Biggest thing I have bought on Ebay, purchase went smooth with no glitches. Flew to Orange County yesterday to pick up, long slab ride home. Full ride report here.

After getting it home I found the original owner had added over $3000 in extras. Almost to many whistles and bells. :thumbup May have this bike for a long time.

Congrats!!!! Mind if I asked you how much you got it for?

+1 on all counts! Very nice - would love to hear one of those 6 pot motors one of these days!

Keep a close eye on your tire wear. Word it those things eat tires for breakfast.

It's a friggin BMW inline 6 on 2 wheels, what more could you ask for?

Pretty much makes the Goldwing look like a Dinosaur.

These engines aren't all about peak HP, it's got a massive flat torque curve though!

Wonder how it feels compared to my K1200RS

Congrats! :thumbup

I had a blast on both the GT/GTL during the 2011 Street Vibrations chaperoning demo rides for the weekend. Best MPG = 50, otherwise it was above 45 throughout the weekend. It's a big engine, but it's barely stressed (yup, that effortless).

You get the GT, you can still look over the windshield. The GTL has a taller and wider windshield, plus you sit lower and back on the bike.

The GT is more of the choice for the sportier and previous BMW riders. I think the GTL is aimed more toward the cruiser riders who are looking for something more 21st century related.

I love the six-holed exhaust.

Those are actually 2 separate exhausts with 3 tips on each. No bridge, hence the cool sound. :)
