One thing to watch out for with any noise cancelling headphone is they might make you feel sick or nauseous.

I can't use noise cancelling headphones because they make me feel uneasy after a couple minutes. You should check that out before you blow a wad of cash on something you can't really use.
You might also want to check out some of Audio Technica's noise cancelling headphones. They are priced a lot cheaper than Bose stuff (some under $100) and still get good reviews.
I'd just use ear plugs or get some decent in ear monitors that passively block sound with a good seal in your ears. That way you could sleep on your side and not have to remove your headphones, as well as being able to travel/pack them easier.
