Norick Abe Dead

sad, very very sad.

I remember watching him on TV dueling with Schwantz and Doohan as a wild card rider in the Japanese GP......sliding the rear and and the front.........almost won the race but crashed on the final lap......and I always liked the paint design of his helmet.....I wish he would of done better in WSB, but he was a 2-stroke guy and I don't think he enjoyed riding the 4-strokes in motogp or in WSB.

RIP

What an incredible shame. :cry

Lovely shots Jim, thanks for sharing them.

I believe that there is a very, very rare time when the rider couldn't have done SOMETHING to prevent or mitigate thier situation before or during a collision. I hear it all the time "I was run off the road", "A car cut me off" or some other thing blaming the people around them. I have a funny feeling this was probably one of the very extreme rare times when that wasn't the case and there was nothing he could do as he could out ride more then 99.9% of the people in the world (more then that I am sure, but how many decimal places can I go?).

Streets are dangerous people.

I have never seen any rider get away with what Abe-San got away with, during his historic Suzuka win!!

Both front and rear Dunlops leaving un-real darkies, simultaneously!

The world has lost a true gentleman and excellent racer..I had the priviledge of knowing Norick when he trained at KR(sr)s ranch plus several 500cc GP's...I am saddened by his loss..:rose

RIP Wasn't Rossi and him pretty tight? I remember Rossi being called Rossifumi........

I believe you're thinking of "Nitro" Nori Haga. Abe was #81, and Haga is #41 WSBK.

Regardless, many top-level racers are friends, regardless of the series they currently run. If they don't race in the same series currently, chances are they raced together in the past.

Regardless, this is sad news for motorcycling fans. :(

I don't believe they were that close, but Rossi had massive respect for Abe. One of his heroes, for sure. Norifumi's fans used to shout "Norifumi Ganbatte" meaning, essentially, "Go Norifumi!" and Rossi loved that. Rossi adopted his own version, which was "Rossifumi Ganbatte, and is one of the 'superstitious stickers' that Valentino always places on his bike.
