Now they want to lower the threshold for drunk driving to 0.05%

You are correct.

Definitely have to be careful, and while I have obtained tickets of various types, I have not come close to a DUI or "wet reckless." Yes yes, knock on wood.

R6s are swervy?
If the wiki page is true, then yes, a 54" wheelbase bike raked 24 degrees with 3.5" of trail should be swervy as a motherfucker.

So, apparently, a lot of people drink and ride.

Assumption fail.

I did a survey a couple of years back here on BARF and the vast majority of BARFERs didn't drink and ride though most would have two drinks with dinner over 2 hours and drive home.

Point? Those that did hit someone clearly didn't know their limit.

And you know your limit when buzzed? Care to corroborate your statement with a scientific study?

You never listen to music while riding? If so, I'd say you're in the minority.

And with regard to talking to your g/f, OK maybe you don't do that on your bike, but I bet you do in your car. As well as fiddle with the climate control, adjust your seat, ogle hot chicks in the other lane, etc.

Point is, there are lots of things people could do while driving that would make them more dangerous than having a BAL of 0.05%.

Recent studies have shown drowsy driving is at least as dangerous as driving legally drunk.

The Mythbusters wanted to know if that would prove to be true by testing it.

"Although both situations - downing a couple of shots and staying up all night - clearly impaired Tory and Kari's driving skills, causing them to make mistakes and veer out of their lanes, the lack of sleep had more dangerous effects. Compared with cruising around while tipsy, sleep deprivation caused Tory to drive 10 times worse; sleepy Kari's driving was three times more erratic.

Although getting behind the wheel while groggy isn't illegal, the confirmed myth is a wake-up call that driving tired equals driving impaired."

Geoff, ask any cop what the standard answer is when someone is pulled for suspicion of drunk driving. "Just had 2 officer".

Is there any real difference between drinking and riding, and drinking and driving? Easier to crash on a bike I suppose, cars are almost auto pilot. Almost.

Why is it assumption fail? They admit they'd drive home after drinking 2 drinks.

Everyone that drinks, drives.

I was married to a cop for over 13 years.
My cop buddies always invited me on rides.
Meet at a coffee shop at 9am.
Ride fifteen minutes to a bar.
Ride another 30 minutes to a bar.
Ride a while longer, stop have lunch and drinks.
Ride a few more miles, stop at a bar.
You get the idea.
Took another civilian buddy with me once. He wondered when we were going to actually ride.

Same guys talking all high and mighty to the civilian population about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Hypocrites. Great guys but...hypocrites.

I am curious how many LEOs here really believe that anyone that they arrested that wasn't outwardly drunk and blew below.08, were very likely to cause or be involved in an accident.

Thoughts on my first statement:
When all those BARFers went to Lagunitas, did they not drink ANY beer or pehaps only one in 2-3 hours or did the drink and simply take a taxi home.
...or did they ride out of there?

Except the BARFers weren't being interrogated on the side of the road with something to hide, they were responding to a question posed by a fellow BARFer.

So you never drink wine at dinner? I'm not talking a whole bottle, I'm talking 1 glass. You're saying nobody should do that?

No I don't drink wine at dinner. And if you are out and are the person driving the vehicle, you shouldn't either

And you know your limit when buzzed? Care to corroborate your statement with a scientific study?

LOL. Almost not worth dignifying, but what the heck.

Yes, I have a scientific study detailing MY personal alcohol limits. :laughing

Instead, I will offer you circumstantial evidence. In 15 years of driving/riding, I have not come close to any type of under-influence violation.

No, you said riding.

I never drink and ride but think lowering the BAC is addressing a problem they have yet to prove exists amongst car drivers, (ie. that .06 and .07 drivers represent a significant percentage of drivers who have accidents).

Obviously living the high life, relaxing on the beach, and chugging down cerveza (sp?), isn't helping DrSwades mood:laughing. Thought you might be more relaxed.

No cerveza to calm the mood and I think all those steroids are starting to make me a little aggressive.:twofinger:laughing

Really, my only real influence of negativity is on the 'net. That's why I keep coming back.

OR...

We simply extrapolate the "it works in Europe" rationale to ensure that we have; strong labor unions, 1 month a year paid holiday, short workdays, and a mass transit system good enough that 80% of us don't need private transportation devices :banana

:twofinger

Are you saying that our country is not exactly like every European nation? Crazy talk. :x

I'd rather choose neither, I'd catch a cab

Edit- i would just drive lol cause I wouldn't have had any liquor

The only cabs available, right then, are driven by asians chewing betel nut... NOW what's your choice :twofinger

I think a glass or two of booze might do you good. Sometimes, we need to unwind a bit. Just sayin'

Honestly I never feel the need to unwind, I live in incredibly stress free lifestyle.

I drink wine very very rarely, I just really cant stand the taste of alcohol. When I do drink, it's geverally white wine or something like that. But you've probably drank more alcohol this week that I have in a decade
