Just got the news today that my job is moving to City Center Oakland. I am trying to find out where are the cheapest and safest places to park in and around City Center. Anyone know? Google and searches on here did not deem many results.

I'd be eary of parking there :rofl

Real helpful there. :rolleyes

OP, when I worked at Kaiser in downtown Oakland, I used to park between cars right across the street from the Ordway building. Unfortunately, just before my contract ended the Parking Enforcement was getting a hard-on for MC because they were handing out tickets like candy, even if the car meters were paid up. :wtf Many riders ended up parking across Grand Avenue by a car garage. There are a few metered MC spots but payment is a premium. Oakland is right behind SF when it comes to motorcycle unfriendly parking. :thumbdown

yes, because saying that parking there is not safe IMO in lesser words is not being helpful. :x

Anyways, back to topic. Let someone else help you out since i'm useless :)

Thanks. I found out that there are two parking garages next to City Center with MC parking for $8 a day. That seems reasonable to me. And I am leary about parking my MC anywhere, Oakland or otherwise, thanks for the help guys!

Sweet. I manage the maintenance contract at City Center. I park my bike in the city center garage. It's pretty secure in there.

I believe there is one on 14th and Franklin that is $8 a day for motorcycles. The reason I mention this is because the others (Webster and 13th) are above ground with no cover for you if it rains.

Good luck

The garage on 14th and clay is $8 a day, and they have you park your bike right in front of the cashier so they can keep an eye on it.

They also let you just walk up and pay on your way to the bike so you don't have to deal with making your payment all geared and mounted up.

ALCO Garage is 3.50/Day for MC's. Parking is secure right next to the guard shack and its fenced.

On Jackson St. Between 12th and 13th st.

Off subject sort of but do you have theft coverage if worst scenario happens? I hear that you can get theft coverage without having to also get comprehensive coverage. Is this correct?

I've been parking under an overpass on Washington between 5th and 6th.. A few blocks away from city center. Plenty of free spaces available for motorcycles and there are typically lots of people around on weekdays. Best of all, there is a pretty heavy LEO presence as the OPD stores most of its vehicles in the adjacent lots.. OPD gas station, offices, etc.. False sense of security? ;)

Parking

Kawikz, I think you meant Jefferson not Jackson? I could be wrong, but I know there is a garage on the corner of Jefferson and 12th. Been a few months since I last parked there (but I will be again soon), but then it was $3 or $3.50 for a day of m/c parking and if you got there early enough you could be in sight of the cashier/guard shack.

That's good to know, I'll check that out.

I think I am going to stick to the parking garage. And you can "pet" my Spyder as long as you're nice to her. :)

Yes, of course I do. :)

The one time I tried this, I got a ticket because the car I was space-sharing with had a handicapped placard, so naturally the meter wasn't paid. :|

Yeah, so that parking garage you were talking about between 12th and 13th is off of Jackson.... 1220 Jackson St to be exact. I may swing by there and check out the facility. It's about a 1/2 mile from City Center but if it's $3.50 a day, that's worth it to me. I can use the excercise too. I'll let you all know what I find out. :)

Thanks again for all your help.

I went by the ALCO Parking Garage at 1220 Jackson St just last week to check it out. It's a decent size garage and the motorcycle parking is right up front by the gates. The parking is still $3.50 for the day and it's open 7AM to 7PM.

Does anyone happen to know if this facility has monthly parking available? Or if they take credit cards? (thinking of using my pre-paid commuter card to pay for parking)

Does anyone know of any garages in the area of City Center that may have monthly motorcycle parking available?

Thanks.

Is sharing a parking spot with a car legal if the spot is already "paid for" by the cage? I've done this in lots of other cities with old style meters and never gotten in trouble, and now I got a ticket in Oakland for sharing a spot with a car that was paid up.

Parking is generally regulated by municipal codes, so it varies from city to city. Read your ticket, what's it say you were cited for?
