So I met a cool dude this past weekend who is up for a 1000+ mile trail ride..

The idea is in it's infancy right now so I'm looking for ideas for places to go.. He's thinking Oregon.. it's 300+ miles to the border.. and it's 500 miles to the Mexico border... I want to do Baja but Oregon is beautiful too..

Anyone have any suggestions ?? We're not towing the bikes..

I don't have a route in mind. But i have always wanted to do a Baja trip and I am starting to plan it.
But off the top of my head, I've always wanted to hit up Mission San Borja (or whatever it is called), near Bahia de los Angeles. From there we can ride down the east coast to the Mulege area. Really it's wide open.

I'm heading down to Baja next week on the 950 for the Baja 1000. This trip will be fairly quick so I'll only make it to San Felipe and down to Gonzaga Bay then back. That Oregon route looks pretty enticing though...

Think you'd be up for the Oregon trail on the 950? <evil grin> I have two things I need to do to the XR.. springs.. front and rear.. then All I need is a place to ride and buddies to do it with..

Think about it.. next March, April or may.. before the heat after the snow.

Well, if I'm not up for it on the 950 then I can attack it with the 450EXC (plated). The only things the 950 doesn't like is super steep ascents/descents (heavy = momentum == krash) and deep mud (heavy == sink)...

there's also the Continental Divide route - huts all along trail

it's OK for hikers & cyclists - moto bikers OK, too, as I remember.......

@firstbuell: yup, it's also known as the great divide ride, most searches turn up mountain bike results but motos do it too.

@Ironbutt and 9rPilot: I'm another 950ADV (or a plated XR650R SM I with spare rims & knobbies to mount up) that might be interested. I'm off to read up on that route and take a look at the ride pictures. :)

A 950ADV shouldn't have much of a problem on the OBDT with a good rider.

I think I may also have the Great Divide ride tracks. But I'd have to check my other computer.

If you want to go east, I also did a route across Nevada and Utah to Torrey UT. 4.5 days. More if you ride it late enough to include the Sierras. We skipped 'em due to snow, but there's a 250 miles stretch without gas.
