I'm in the market for a good knife. What is everyone carrying these days? I want something with a clip and maybe teflon coating on the blade? There are so many out there....just curious about the popular LE brands.

Thanks!

What are you going to use it for? Butchering? Self defense? Cutlery?

That said, I like a ceramic blade for a whole lot of reasons.

I have an old Benchmade semi-serrated folder that I picked up almost 12 years ago, back when Benchmade was really "the shit." It has held up amazingly well, for the abuse I have put it through. I was averaging 3 Buck Knives a year, then a Gerber pocket tool (all ended up with busted blades) before the Benchmade.. it is the only knife I have owned that lasted me more than 6 months! I still have the Gerber, as I still use the other tools.

Benchmade for me too, I agree with MM4L. I had mine for about ten years held up nice. Holds an edge. Half serated( for seat belts). I had a spyderco before it did not last more than two years beore the tip broke.:2cents

I have Benchmade and will third that but I also have a couple Cold Steel as well.

what's a benchmark?

benchmade griptilian is nice tho (1st 1). it's not rough like a tactical blade (w that skateboard/sandpaper finish) and easy to use w the axis lock

The benchmade one is nice but cold get a bit pricey. I Really like the second one in the picture. I believe it I a Kershaw w/ a tanto blade. Many LEO's have told me they like that one because of the "sandpaper" type grip. They say it doesn't get too slippery when there is blood involved. I have the spring loaded one and love it. It's very slim also... not at all bulky like some of my other knives. :thumbup

I have several Kershaws, the Ken Onion folders for defense, a couple Smith and Wessons for everyday beater knives, and a Kershaw pocket tool, plus a few other goodies.

Emerson or nothing.

Little expensive though, in the $200 range.

I have Ken Onion's one for about five years or so.
Love it.

I only carry knives on duty that I can lose and still sleep that night not thinking about it...aka inexpensive.

$60 is about my limit. Luckily the CRKT (as someone else posted) are in that neighborhood. I'm on my 3rd CRKT knife (lost 1, carry 2).

The assisted opening knives from Kershaw and others are pretty slick. If I buy another knife, it'll probably be one of those.

I've had the M16-12LE. Great knife. The flipper thing makes one-handed opening easy even without an assisted opening device.

As far as the Ken Onion Kershaw knives...
best knife i have ever used. i worked in the outdoors/climbing field for years and had to cut everything from tape, ropes to plastic straps to meals... the blade got dull,i sent it in, they sent it back within a week -> factory sharpened, oiled and cleaned. you can get them at REI. and the way it snaps open i think is better than a switch blade.

Sog Flash 2 has been doing fine so far; also have a Benchmade if I break the Sog. The Sog has a nice lock on it so others have a hard time opening it.

Any way people can edit their posts to include links for the item they're talking about? (I'll go back and do mine) Good info and probably some products people don't know about in here.

Just reread the title. Ceramic is probably bad for around town use. I like it for hunting and camping.

I also have been known to carry this on my belt, on occasion. I don't carry it much anymore, but it is a perfect "oh shit" knife. It secures to your under belt, between your duty-belt. It's hardly noticeable and you can reach it very easily with either right or left hand, grabbing it with your index finger and thumb or pinky finger and meat of the hand.

I stopped carrying it when I carried a backup firearm -- now that I no longer carry a backup, I might start carrying it again.
