Bone stock 94 cbr F2. The bike ran fine with stock pipe and everything, but I installed an open pipe(stock headers). The bike revs harder but roll ons on the highway seem to suffer just a tad. I know this is lean symptoms, but I can live with it. The question is, can my bike live a little lean without holeing a piston? I am planning on jettin it eventually, just not for a couple months. This bike is not really important to me, its a beater. Never the less, I don't want to chunk a motor.

i fouled my plugs pretty badly when I hacked off the can. It sounded insane though :)

It might run poorly but be ok.

Or it might run poorly and chunk the motor.

No way to really know from here in the peanut gallery.

Do your neighbors a favor and make the rest of us look good. Don't run open pipes. They are too loud.

i'd rejet if i were you. the bike was lean to begin with and you made it leaner. a set of 140 mains and a 3mm flat washer under the needle and you would be much better off.

Don't make more people than already do hate motorcyclists. It's a bad enough problem as it is. Remember, these are the same people who can vote and lobby for all kinds of restrictions on motorcycles. It happens and continues to happen. Put the stock pipe back on. It's a beater anyway. You don't need the extra performance. And why put time and effort rejetting into a beater bike that doesn't need the tiny performance gain you might get. Throw the loud can in the trash and help motorcyclists everywhere. And save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run.

...wait, pipe just open to the air? That sucks bro. You don't need to be THAT loud.

Plus, as mentioned, your bike needs SOME back pressure to operate properly.

Either way, you should get a rejet for proper performance. Whether it's worth a few hundred bucks to do it right is another matter. I know it was worth it to me.

The need for backpressure is a myth based on people not having an understanding of how exhaust systems work.

But it will still be loud and annoying, and still require a rejet.

to the rest of you tards...who cares what this guy does with his bike..if he liked it loud..so be it, i bet he doesnt even wear ear plugs so his hearing will be the first to go....and people who are against motorcycles will be against them no matter what you do so safe that crap for someone else

:cry

You sir have no right giving facts based upon YOUR OPINION.

An exhaust system has 3 jobs.
1: To move noxious hot gases, away from the operator, and vent them safely.
2: To suppress noise created by combustion cycle. with a muffler - For "sound emissions" requirements
3: To help the engine complete the cycle effeciently, providing correct pressure and vacuum in the system to give a benefit of scavenging.

And engine NEEDS back pressure via an exhaust system to properly allow exhaust scavenging. Which is essential for performance.

Kid you not, even if MotoGP and all the other riders could get away with running straight pipes, how many do you think would.... none, it hurts performance, majorly. :thumbup

To the OP:
Don't believe me? Google it man, there are LOTS of dyno graphs proving that proper exhaust setup providing correct "backpressure" in the system shows nothing but gains across the board. Not that I will say much about what I have done, but race built motors included I have blown THOUSANDS on setting up the "proper" exhaust to show the best gains across the board. And I will say for sure NONE of them were anything near "straight pipes".

Also: For those about to go on a bender...... Don't even start on the "yeah well these things run nothing but headers and or dump tubes".... Save it. FORCED INDUCTION, is a whole different subject. :cool

really? people against motorcycles are going to be against them no matter how annoying people make them?

nice, gives you the freedom to be a complete asshole, eh?

fitting avatar, way to promote the stunna mentality.

yep i stunt in the parking lot not around asshole cars that will run me over and where i have the possiblity of wrecking and causing traffic backups and maybe even hurting other people
