Oval Track Motorcycle Racing?

I also miss Baylands. There is still flat track and speedway around in Northern California but no where really convenient to the San Jose. Oh well.........gotta make a trip to the central valley or Auburn sometime soon.

They still do an occassional race at the fairgrounds.

Don't miss the stockton mile in Sept.

I'm all for it. All sidways all the time. Fresh tires for every race, and race distance that the tires will hold up for (even if it's one lap sprint).

Spectators on the inside of the oval. Major run off (or slide off) on the outside of the track. Nothing to hit, maybe even watered astro turf for super slides.

We are Americans, this is what we do:rofl

Looks way too, um......sanitary, to me

Isn't the reason the Daytona 200 moved down from the literbikes to the 600s because they were going too fast for the tires once they got out onto the little speedway section?

Just watch speedway or flat track racing. We have had it for cars and bikes for decades. And 750cc bikes have been run in both.

You will not be sideways all the time on asphalt with a bike. On a small dirt track, you actually slide all but a few feet. Support the sport that is truly American Motorcycle History. It is a blast to watch and to ride. :ride

Ascot park use to have an event with a jump. Now, that was fun. Put a jump in NASCAR and I might watch it more often.
:party :teeth

The problem with all oval/semi-oval speedways is that there is zero run-off area. If a rider loses it or blows a tire at top speed (Daytona's turn 3, for example) they would be hitting the wall at about 200mph. End of story for the rider.

Put 'em all on Ninja 250's FTW! :party

I know OP wants to see big bikes, but 250s would be the ultimate NASBIKE event. The little ninjas would all be bunched in a tight pack the whole race and drafting would be a big deal for those little bikes. It would be just like NASCAR except on 2 wheels.

Oh please :laughing I lived within a stones throw of Ascot, in Gardena.

I was #3 in the State of Oregon in Desert racing.

Your explaining to me sliding?

We are talkin Busa on paved ovals, this would be a track designed for the event.

And History? I think it's safe to say I've been at this longer than you have, but.... I try to be semi-understanding when whipper snappers say these things :laughing even though I'll bet that I was kick starting my Triumph when you were kicking the slats in your crib :x

Each lap would be 15 minutes long! :laughing

Not Ninja 250's, Buell Blast's. That way you have the carbs and the pushrods like NASCAR. Going backwards in technology is what NASing is all about!

Sounds like an even faster and more dangerous version of boardtrack racing. We all know how that turned out...

I read a story of that action (still have the vague image in my mind). Unbelievable how intense and no quarter given (huge bets involved). Not for the squeamish fo sho.

Interesting handle bars, when you only turn left. Wonder what Speedway racers have to say about that?

(note to Busa race team, check it out :laughing)

Holy sheet! No biker is that old. :wtf
Well, old man, do you remember a guy called Dick Mann. He was one of my heros as a kid. I got to be on the track with him at Ascot. He lapped me in 1.2 laps.
:laughing

Of course I remember Dick Mann. (Last time I saw him racing was at Castle Rock Washington in 1969) And... (don't know if he is still alive but he was a few years ago) he headed the Vintage racing that is still going on.

I saw him at Steam Boat Springs Colorado, (not racing, just walking across a parking lot) about 20 years ago. The track they would race on was just layed out on a bare chunk of ground, and became a track by the old flat tracker bikes running around it.

The bike event was priceless (really you could take in the weekend for free) and the road racing event was on the roads winding through the ski condo area. Water barrels and some hay Bails were borders to the road. Very much like Isle of Man.

It was watching (back when Dick Mann was racing flat track) those guys that shaped my life.

I wanted to feel what they could feel on those bikes, and all I could have was a stock Triumph Bonnie, and a Triumph 500 dirt bike.

I'm 70 years old now, been riding for 53 years, can't ride dirt any more (can't ski anymore either) But... have tricked out an 05 ZX-10 specifically for rough old knarly roads and tight twisties, so that part is the best it has ever been, and live at the base of Ebbetts pass. :ride :cool

I can't believe I read this entire thread. We already have NASBike, why would we want to make it even more boring?
