Parked motorcycle with key in ignition?

I left my key in the ignition once at work (in a parking garage). Didn't even realize it until I found a little business card tucked under the key hole cover thing on my tank. The card was a little note letting me know that the nice fella had put my key on top of my rear tire. It was still there waiting for me.

If the bike has a tight front fender, I usually stash the key under it, if a friend or something is going to come pick it up or whatever.

Just a FYI.

If a bike is left in the accessories position and the key ISN'T there,
you can use any key to turn it to the lock position.

True story...try it.

Since I've had a battery go dead (twice) from doing that, I did have to go try it - sure as shit it works. Weird things you learn on barf...

That is true, if you can even get the key out in that position. Most bikes lock the key in once it's turned out of off/lock. Some older bikes can be pulled out though, I used to always pull my key out of my 83 kawi gpz.

I've heard the comments before so, YES, I had a gpz. Before you judge me remember I've been riding for 25 years, when I bought it, it was still the cool bike to have. :laughing

I'd probably just turn it off and if I had a way of covering up the ignition with something I would. Unless of course I worked in the building where the bike was parked I'd probably leave a note and hang on to the key.

I have left the key several times in the pillion lock, not so noticeable (the reason I left it), so thankfully, I haven't had a problem.
