dunno if they're looking for attention, or on a self absorbed power trip, or were beaten up too many times by their sisters at school, people who go out of their way to make their cars and motorcycles look like a police vehicle are just plain weird...

the ones that get a CHP colored helmet or white city cop helmets and even dress the part but have no authority as a mall cop at chuck e cheeze...

double bonus if they make their bikes look like a euro cop bike with "polizia" written on it equipped with blue lights and all...

very weird in their vehicle and even stranger when off...

How else am I supposed to get bishes phone numbers if I'm not pulling them over and pretending to be an Italian LEO on exchange??

I profile vehicles all the time. But when it comes to those Crown Vics, there were only two demographics. Old folks are the first...maybe they didn't have the scratch to go for the Lincoln or even the Mercury, so they got the big Ford sedan.

But more relevant to the topic at hand the other demo, white guys....always white guys with short military style haircuts, in their 30s-40s, and wearing sunglasses whenever it's daylight. Always it's this.

And the retired cop cars that go out at auction, you get a bit of dilution to the customer base, but it's still a lot of the same demographic.

Some of those folks (not the silver haired set), take the wannabe cop look even further. They put (or leave on) the rammer bumper and even the little antennas on the roof that normally are on even the unmarked cruisers.

I agree with you V4. I have seen several moto's like this on the freeway and I only realized that they are not LEO's by the 'normal plates'.

Years ago- I met a 24ish y/o guy who was a security guard, his personal car was a Crown Vic. He so badly wanted to be a LEO. He talked to me for a loooooong time about all of the places he had applied, but had not yet been hired.......................... (there was something 'not quite right' about this guy), I'm sure he's a high ranking officer in the LAPD by now.

I imagine it's the same idea as the assholes who play pretend army/marines/war vet. Piss me off so much.

They love the romantic view of it all, dressing up, the honor and recognition (or fear and power) but don't want to actually have to do anything having to do with the effort and honor that comes with the position.

There are people who straight up walk around in marines uniforms they bought from supply stores and bathe in people thanking them for their service.
Disgusting.

I think the cop thing is more about the power, though. It's all about attention.

I gotta admit, I'm a little jelly of how everyone gets out of their way on the freeway. I bet if one of those guys had a nickel for every time the looked over and saw some driver they just intimidated over out of their lane, and saw them mouthing the words "awwww shit that's not a cop" I bet they'd be able to buy another black Crown Vic.

I was just about to post up the legality of this - there was a bike on 24 east with a half helmet painted like a Leo and a former Leo bike (without taking the lights off). I did a double take and then thought how sad it must be to be him.

Kind of weird, I saw actual Leo Mustang 5.0 the other day followed by a Leo Ford pick up. I get the truck but why a 5.0? this was in sf.

It's a double edged sword, most people just lock up and say "let me show this officer I'm 100% capable of maintaining 65mph exactly in the #1 lane while remaining exactly alongside this car next to me in the #2 lane"

I saw two ex-bikes with "retired" on the side of it. I wondered if they were like retirement gifts for ex-chp bikers or something :dunno

It's sort of like lane splitting for cars. Motorcyclists should understand the benefit of this, no?

haha...going up to lake berryessa, saw a SUV with all the popo stuff...came up on it thinking what moran ( yes, barf lingo ) would make a suv into a wannabe police vehicle...

came up and read the chp logo and thought, they must of spend some money to make it look authentic...

looked inside and saw the tan shirt and thought, damn...this guy needs a life as i rode by him...

then saw the lights....:(

I saw an unmarked Explorer that looked like a totally regular, civilian vehicle. Tan, untinted windows. No extra antennas, even super subtle ones, or extra lights in the grille or windows. I'm a bit of a student, could pick out unmarked cars up and down the east coast. I thought the VA cops were slick. This tan explorer I would have blown by any day. That was a slick cop car.

I didn't know CHP had unmarked cars till now. Maybe I'm slippin' how long has CHP had unmarked enforcement?

I don't know man. At one point I had this old CBR600F that had a white headlight fairing and a black front fender with big black rear view mirrors all from mismatched replacement parts. Didn't even look like a police bike except for a vague black & white color relationship. They way motherfuckers were getting out of my way all over the road, I almost left it that way before I painted it up the way I like.
