Psst, 2.0 to 1.8 = less than 1/3 stop, Ansel! :twofinger ;)

you just said "stop." regardless of how many 3rds, it's still a "stop."

OOOWWWNIJ!!!! :twofinger

Hey calvin, I just recently picked up the 85mm 1.8 Its pretty tight to use indoors even on my Mark II N. Which is a 1.3 crop factor. I bought off a guy with a 20D. He said it was too tight for what he was shooting

I have'nt had a chance to really try it out yet. If you want. You can try it out on your camera before you decide to pic one up for yourself.

quick test shot w/ the 85 1.8 that came in today

decent camera bag to carry a couple lenses and flash? something not too bulky

Are you looking for a bag? I have a Tenba bag that fits that description. It fit my 20D but its too tight for my MarkIIN

i'm thinkin' these primes will suffice for most of the shots i plan on doing till i can afford a 70-200 f/(4 or 2.8) for any future motorsports shots if i ever plan on going that route.

28mm f/2.8
50mm f/1.8 (already own)
85mm f/1.8

are there any zooms that are good in low light conditions? i haven't found any.

Only the zooms that are 2.8 fixed. :) 17-35, 28-70, 80-200. I carry the 17-35 on one body and the 80-200 on another. 99% of the images I make are with these two lenses.

Hey Mackey,

Now that you have had that 85mm 1.8 for a couple of months, how do you like it? I'm thinking of picking one up but I'm torn between that and the 100mm 2.0 USM.

This could have been shot with a 5.6 lens hand held. Try shooting sports in a dark gym without a flash, that's where the fast lenses excel. If it doesn't move you could shoot it with just about anything.

yes. when i'd taken that pic, i hadn't had any indoor experience like you mentioned. i do now. i shot some figure skating stuff with the 200 f/2... lighting was flourescent and dismal, at best. even at 800ISO, it wasn't nearly as good as i'd have liked...and that was ice-side...not even shooting through glass! meh.

Yep! just grab your tripod and hold that shutter open for a few seconds, Works wonders.

Also wanted to add a plug for photo sharing site called smugmug. if you are taking lots of pics why not share with everyone.

the adv rider forum uses smugmug for all their pics. i've had it for about a year and have really liked the ease of sharing photos. much better than kodak as it doesn't require a log in and you have full access to your pics (can view, share and save original sized photos, not shrunken compressed ones).

if figured $3/month was worth it for a secure place to store and share photos.

also, you can save $5 off membership using this coupon code: LBrEbSbRJpivM

This is a very cool thread!

I have 800+ motorcycle racing photos at: http://www.alan927.com

EXIF is published for all photos taken digital so you can see all relevant settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc.).

I looks like I'm going to have to slow down the shutter speeds...

Just got this in today.

It is my kit lense replacement. There's a lot of reviews on this lens. Check it out. Beware of Canon-holics and L-aholics that preach Canon and/or Canon L lens only. Canon too is susceptible to bad copies. But generally its a crap shoot when buying new lens for your camera. Just make sure you buy from a good shop that will allow you to return/exchange if you are not satisfied with the lens. Make sure you inquire with the store/shop about this before shopping at the place. Most camera specific stores will accept returns/exchanges within a very limited time.

When you buy your lens (regardless of what brand, type, ...etc) take it home and do a focus test. Make sure it focus correctly.

:cool

so does anyone use those small digital cameras...the type without a big lense sticking out? Lets say for instance, a Canon Elph SD400....are these basically useless when trying to take good pics? I was thinking about buying a small digiital camera so I can put it in my pocket on rides and stuff, but if they arent worth it, then I won't. Any suggestions? Can I still do the cool effects like the other cameras? Thanks

I know its an old post. I scaned the thread and found no answers this question. Ive got one of the point and shoot ones cyber shot t-7.

17-40 f/4 quasi lent me was pretty good. little too slow for me but it's pretty good if you have a decent amount of light
