You can't say an apple pie is less 'murican than pumpkin even tho they have apples in Europe and pumpkins are native to here. Pie itself is an American deal. They have strudels and cakes and stuff elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure the format of a standard pie is an American joint.

I still say that most pumpkins pies taste burnt, too oily or have just absorbed various odors and aftertastes more often than not, whereas apple pies just generally taste good.
One of the best pumpkin pies I ever had was actually sweet potato pie at a rib joint, proving that its really the sugar and spice mixed with the orange starch. Apple pies depend on the actual flavor of the apples.

...and texture. I use Granny Smith for the best results on texture and the tartness adds a nice palate cleanser after a good meal.

Sounds like you need to try some different pumpkin pies!

:wtf huh? You know that sweet potato and pumpkin are two different things right? :laughing

All the pies, no, I wouldn't want them myself...but I admire such an undertaking and anyone who loves pies of all types and flavors is A-OK in my book! :thumbup

Actually I think the main thing we've learned here is that there is 1 person here on BARF that is simply untrustworthy. Whoever said they don't like sweets...BAN THEM!!!!

That's why I always make my polls public. People can not hide behind their screens.
Plus that poor and/or damaged soul just didn't discover deliciousness that is an apple pie!

Wanna hit Nations for a pie before Cycle Gear bike night?

Of course I know they are different. And the funny thing is, Sweet potato pies are made with yams, not sweet potatoes, that's why they are orange.I guess yam pie doesn't sound right. But the fact is, they taste almost identical. Put whipped cream on em and you can fool anyone. Pumpkin pies are normally not even made with halloween pumpkins, but sugar pumpkins, usually from a can. That's why they never can match the standard of apple pie, in terms of freshness.

Halloween Pumpkins, Sugar Pumpkins, both new terms to me.
Big, Small, Canned, Soylent green, I don't really care what they used to make pumpkin pie, once it's all together it's DE-MotherFuckin-LICIOUS!!!
Pumpkin Pie is king....I don't care what you apple and rhubarb lovers think! :laughing

Anyone else want some of their favorite pie right this very minute????

I'm partial to Nations pumpkin pies, better than costco I think, and smaller...two person size maybe :)

Never heard of the show before but YES, sounds like a fine use of time in front of the tube! Ikeda’s in Auburn California huh? Might be worth taking the long way up there and using that as a lunch stop! :thumbup ohhhhhhhhh I want some pie so bad right now!

Sweet Potato Pie , FTW!!!

I think Nations vary by location. I have had an almost inedible apple pie from them, burnt crust etc. I won't go back to the San Pablo one anyway for pie. I still like their greasy burgers though. Nations is one of those places where the burger, the fries, and the wax paper wrapping all smell like oily onions then after you eat em, you smell like oily onions for the rest of the night. And a delicious 'nilla shake is required to counteract the oil mess, leaving a wonderful feelin' in the throat and tastebuds.
