Possibly ANOTHER Fatal today... I80 @ Rockwell (03/27/08)

You all are getting pretty sick in your rush to point out these fatalitites- you're worse than network news. Instead of celebrating them, hoisting banners, and shooting off rockets, why don't you try a low key approach? Never mind, you live for this shit, don't you? "she can tell you 'bout the plane crash, with a gleam in her eye..." Perverse.

Posts are made regarding accidents and fatalities to the motorcycle community for informational purposes. For example Troy and Ilya's accident, many fellow riders, friends and family did not know about the accident until the posts on BARF. In my opinion I think it's a good way to keep everyone informed about the situation.

I would rather hear it from BARF than the news, because the news tend to bend the story.

It keeps accidents fresh in peopls mind and that shit does happen EVERY SINGLE DAY. Is it gonna be your day today?

Keep your head up and on a swivel and watching out for everyone else, best you can do. You get in a routine and just jump on the bike like you always do, your gonna end up dead.

So, if the news story is correct, a huge SUV is in the left lane going less than 65. The SUV driver changes lanes without properly making sure there are no vehicles near her, hits a motorcyclist and cuases a crash that kills the motorcyclist.

However, the new report says, "..she felt the Harley Davidson bump the left rear of her car, the CHP reported." If the news report is accurate, the bike didn't bump her car; she hit the motorcycle.

Wow, how's that for unbiased coverage?

Don't patronize me, rook- you think we ride motorcycles for years and aren't aware of the hazards? Carry on, keep doing what you're doing- "ANOTHER MOTORCYCLIST KILLED!!!", you'd put in bigger text if you could. R.I.P. emoticons, think about it. Are you going to send plastic flowers, too?

Look, don't let me spoil your fun- keep it up, if you collect the deaths from just a little bit bigger circle, you could get the whole front page of General covered with blood and guts. Just making a point, that some of us are aware of the possible consequences of riding bikes, and don't need our noses rubbed in it. Ask yourself, are you the guy/ girl that brings up the topic of death when out riding motorcycles? If you are, you suck. You're worse than the non-riding public, who think they're the first to tell you that what you're doing is dangerous. later

Splitting lanes at 65 mph isn't recommended, if you go down you are likely going to end up as road-kill because the cars around you won't be able to stop before running you over.

Especially when the road is full of SUV drivers with cell phones pasted against their heads (Not saying this is the case here because we don't know, but it is a factor to consider when deciding to lanesplit at over 35mph).

Enough already! :rolleyes

There are two camps on this and neither is 100% correct. If you don't like it, then just stay out of the thread. ;)

seems to be more deaths this year than the usual spring...

godspeed rider :rose

Dave
Maybe so but people are now following the CHP website. We never had the internet back in the '70s/'80s. The papers and TV didn't follow the carnage on page 1. We learned about it from our fellow riders. We didn't even know everything that was going on in our own backyard.

Enough already! :rolleyes

He has a point Brett. People need to back away from the news if they can't handle the reality.

Like I said, carry on- enjoy. I just got a PM from the OP wishing death upon me, which supports the idea that some of you get pleasure from this type of news. Nobody likes to confront the sicko in the back of their head, shame on me for pointing it out, eh? :wtf

Back to your program, the Crafting of BARF into our Own Worst Enemy.

Lane splitting between two cars (one of which is an SUV :rolleyes) at 65mph... Dumb. Regardless of whether she was at fault or not, the result is the same for the motorcyclist That's the lesson to be learned in this one.

Very sad. Totally preventable accident if the rider rode in a more defensive manner.

It is sad that so many riders are dying, and rip to the fallen Harley Rider......Flesher does have a point. Barf really needs a fallen rider section so we can look there if we want to see the latest wrecks/deaths. The general thread is turning into the daily carnage or death thread and it seems to only be getting worse as this season is warming up.

something in this thread worth discussing ^^^^

that's some bullshit.

If the SUV driver moved over and hit the Harley, then one would assume that there was an open space for the SUV to move into. Therefore making it completely irrelevant that the rider was lanesharing because at the point of impact, he had a lane to himself. It was just reported as a lane sharing accident because witnesses probably said he was previously splitting through cars.

UNLESS...the Harley rider was accelerating towards the SUV while lanesharing and was in the SUV's blindspot when the driver decided to change lanes. Then i'd put half the blame on the rider for unsafe lanesharing techniques.

I agree with this. Something smells rotten in the state of Denmark.

It's not my place to pass judgement from my glass house here. But I do agree with Flesher. I am new here, and I am still trying to figure out whether these threads are for educational purposes for other riders. Or to just pay respects to fallen riders. If for educational purposes, do the details really need to be reviewed? I am asking seriously. How about 'another brother down, due to lane splitting', and begin a forum review on proper lane splitting procedures. If the later, and these threads are intended to pay respects, then let's be respectful. Mang, how bad would it suck for the spouse/ SO of the deceased to find a favorites link on the deceased computer to BARF. Logon for the heck of it to see a thread with specific details on what time the coroner was rolled to the scene of thier death. I couldn't imagine that. I don't want to. I am not calling anyone out here. Just my opinion. Which is worth ohhh about two cents. Everyone ride safe please.

Xeleventy

We need a memorial/fallen rider section so fallen riders can be honorably remembered instead of the BS that gets infiltrated into these posts. Many BARF members have found out about their fallen rider friends through these threads, they have a place IMO, just probably not in general.

Yep! Agreed!

Also, accidents/fatalities/RIPs should be taken out of the "general" area and be given their own separate links!!!

Nobody seems to have caught this yet, but the news article mentions that the owman was in the #1 lane and moved to the #2 lane. The motorcyclist hit her LEFT bumper. If he was between lanes 1 and 2 and she hit him while moving over, he would have bounced off her right rear bumper.

So either the report is wrong (go figure), or she had moved most of the way obver and he was trying to go around her on the left as she moved over and hit her car. I'm thinking the report is wrong, but who nows? All we can do is speculate.
