PGE just cut off gas due to house leak. Been smelling gas for years between the house and the neighbors but the neighbor insistence I called PGE. No hot water and no heat and at least a couple grand in expense. Anyone know a good plumber in El Cerrito?

Brokenlink: I hope you and your doctor are aware of options other than amputation. It’s possible now to go in and remove the clot. Often done with catheters. Or put in a stent if necessary. Or even put in an artificial artery or vein.

Thanks. I don't think there is really any chance of them amputating it. I mean, Jesus Christ. If that was a potential than fuck me. Anyways at the hospital waiting for an ultrasound. I might just have to take some time off work if that's what I need to do. I think I'm doing this to myself by not letting my foot up and sitting at a desk all day. But I like working and we are slammed right now.

Tux,
So the leak has been identified / found on your side of the meter? Did PG&e replace your meter 4-6 years ago with the new style "smart meter"?
Get a spray bottle filled with dish soap / water mix and spray all the threaded connections on the meter, shut-off valve and the service regulator and look for any sign
of bubbles.

On the meter there are two connections (in and out flow) that use gaskets. These gaskets have been know to fail and produce a small leak.

I would infrequently get a whiff of gas between my house and the neighbors and decided to spray "it" with soapy water. Small bubbles on the "inlet" side of the meter connection. Called PG&E, gave them name, address, etc. and they said someone would be there within 10 minutes, then gave all the precautionary measures to take, etc, etc. But what I found strange (and kind of funny afterwards) was what they asked me next: "Have you called the media?" I responded "no, should I ?" They said: "Ok, no, that's not necessary".

Truck arrived promptly, with a sniffer meter and spray bottle. Leak at meter inlet connection. They removed meter and replaced gaskets and then checked water heater and furnace for correct operation. All good.

The PGE person that came out couldn't find anything but tested the line from the meter to the house and said there's a leak so have to shut of gas.
the meter is at least 10 years old. got Olivero plumbing coming out. $200 out the gate.

gas line reroute will probably be around $3500 and no gas until next week and permits to be pulled.

I'm out plinkin' at the pistol range with my older brother today. :troy

On the way home he let me know he has cancer on his eyeball. :facepalm

Yep, our dad had it too. Basically skin cancer, but on the eyeball. When they operated on my dad at Stanford 25ish year ago, they got the cancer but he lost all sight in that eye. My brother's surgery is at the end of the month. They said 60/40 chance of retaining some sight in that eye. Now I'm on the hunt for a super cool eyepatch.

Damn, hopefully he's on the 60% side. Got a history of skin cancer in my family, to some extent, but they also worshiped the sun with mirrors and tanning oil. Hopefully the insecurities that drive my need to wear cool sunglasses will pan out for me in the eyeball department.
