Where I was from, vinyl siding started covering every house in the 80s and it has completely taken over, just about every house covered in it, many retrofitted very poorly if you look at the waterproofing details....
in addition to vinyl decks and fencing and trex decking.

It may be low maintenance for paint and stain, but I can't be down with it
 
my built patio is made of wood and my deck is made of some type of materials-maybe rubber/plastic, human made shit.
 
It makes sense for decking, I get it.

I think about the health of the house structure when vinyl siding is just quickly and poorly wrapped around the existing siding membrane, which is what I so often see.
 
We ripped out our back redwood deck which rats loved and put down Travertine Tile.

Not cheap but we far prefer it as the lighter color leads to lower temps around the rear of the house in the summer.

Not slippery when wet, more fire resistant of course.

But not cheap.
 
Well used trex or whatever at the cabin in Colorado. Gets too hot to walk on in the summer despite the wood stairs being just fine. If you go with that stuff you'll have to have shade or it's unusable unless you are always wearing shoes.

Wood has lower density and lower conductivity, so it can feel slightly less scorching.
Composites have more plastic, so they absorb and hold heat longer.

But at 100°F in full sun?

Both are hot….

Full sun. Triple‑digit temps.
Redwood deck = hot
TimberTech deck = hot

That’s exactly how it should be.
People act like wood is magically cool, but in real heat it’s not. You’re not strolling barefoot on redwood at 3pm in August.

Both are hot.

Simple.
