I am an excellent reader, but it is almost impossible for me to "hear" what I'm reading for more than about a paragraph. Informational type material I can jump around from place-to-place and put it together in my head, but stuff written like a story... forget about it. :thumbdown
 
D’s for degrees :laughing junior college to state transfer for me; didn’t learn to study until after I graduated and was taking the cpa tests

He also told me that he understands my work experience before getting my degree but maybe don't raise your hand and let the other students speak.

It was one of the easiest 'A's' I got. :laughing

I remember Botany and Plant Taxonomy. I never studied. I just kind of got it. Before each test, I'd take my book to Gordon Biersch brewery and order a large Dunkel. The bartender would always give me a second one for free because I was one of the non-dotcom people in there spending 6 bucks on a pint of beer. Anyways, I'd always ace the test while mygirlfriend would study her ass off and get a C.

One day she asked me how I can show up half drunk adn ace the test and I told her.

"It's a Scantron. I don't need to know the answer, I just need to know which ones aren't the answer."

Anyway, I did pretty good in that class.

That photo reminds me of the time I attended my wife’s 20th reunion. We didn’t know if new badges would be supplied so we brought her 15th reunion badge. They did provide new badges so I wore her 15th badge. When people came up to me and looked at my badge, I said “Yes, it’s me. I had a sex change operation.” The looks I got were priceless.

One might think he’d find a shady spot on the lawn. Our beagle used to escape the heat by burrowing into the pile of dead leaves under the base of our jasmine at the side of the garage.

Bud... now you're taking me on a very different story path.

Of the crashes I've had on the track, there are some a forget about but there are two that will plague my mind and existence til the day I die. I crashed my Ninja 250 coming out of of Cotton Corners at Buttonwillow. Just went in too hot and it was HOT on that day. Sweating... Dehydration.... I knew what I was doing was wrong but I couldn't turn my brain off that said "don't let off the gas, don't let off the gas" but I did and the front tire washed out and into the gravel pit I went...

The frustrating part is a year later, I went to Buttonwillow on my CBR600RR, almost to the day of the trackday and crashed AGAIN in the same turn but because I was too heavy on the throttle and the rear end just slided out from me... in the same fucking turn... The bike was repaired enough after a couple hours and finished the day strong but any time I'm at Buttonwillow, I tiptow through those turns like I'm smelling daises.

The picture the track photographer caught (where were many), I keep as my phone background with the thought that sometimes you toss your shit into the dirt (literally) but you have to get back up again. That's a bit existential and philosophical but I turned some really good laps that day after getting my rearsets assorted.

College... was rough, for me and many others. I think, that's the word for it. Well, it's a very tough school . You were "supposed" to pull all-nighters, everyone said. I realized I never pulled one until year 3 or 4, I think -- but that's because I did a bunch of 2- or 3-hour-sleep nights. And only in the later years I pulled a complete all-nighter--doing a public project (overdid the task, I guess.)

I was glad that studying is over, when I got out. But maybe being glad about it was definitely a mistake. Didn't keep in touch with pretty much anyone, except one or two BFFs, she-BFFs and ex(obvs not the "best" connection). That may have been a mistake, too. BFF constantly fell asleep in class next to me; frequently had exactly 1 grade lower than me, until I realized he had it rough, too: up at 5am to do crew practice. He's totally fine after the years, though-- they own two places in well placed areas -- well, he did have more parental and family support for guidance, of which I had none nearby

Jesus, college was a great time for me. I was a bicycle messenger for a while, then had a job watering plants in offices. Since I was studying fisheries biology, my summers were spent interning. One year I spent a whole summer in the Smoky Mtn National Park. At the time i was an entomology major so I spent two month collecting and identifying spiders. It was rad. The next year I spent a summer living out of my car in the Mendocino National Forest doing summer steelhead surveys in the Middle Fork of the Eel River and Yolla Bolly Wilderness.

We even surveyed a large portion of Snow Mtn OHV area. I saw an adult steelhead in the most impossible place ever. I didn't think it could even support a small fish, but there it was. 20 inches of steel in an isolated pool in the middle of fucking nowhere. This was about 30 minutes after I almost sat down on a baby rattlesnake.

Good times. I miss college. Biology was a fun major and it actually paid off in the long run.
