Would I be crazy to buy that KTM in classifieds.
Ohhai
Even though I am the one selling the bike, i will be dead honest about its capabilities.
The answer to your question depends on what you want to do with it and what your expectations are.
It is an older carbureted dirt bike. That means it either needs to be ridden regularly, or have the gas drained out of it if it is going to sit for more than a week so you aren't clogging the pilot jet with today's crappy ethanol gas. Anyone with a carburetor should know this dance by now.
The top end was rebuilt and has very low hours on it, the one main weak point of the early RFS engine (soft intake valves) has been addressed with stainless steel kibblewhite valves
Yes, the new fuel injected bikes are lighter, and arguably run better and handle better. They also cost at least 2X what this does.
Ask any questions you want I will answer them honestly.
They are very easy to work on, valve adjustments are a screw and a nut, no shims to replace.
Given its age, I would expect minor issues to appear like most dirt bikes, might need fork seals in the future etc
While the front and rear were done by super plush by the previous owner, I don't know exactly what was done. It seems spring right for my 180 lb butt.
Most euro dirt bikes in stock form are sprung for around 165 170 lbs
