Although I am a dog person, I don't dislike cats. We've had several "working cats" over the years that I really liked. We have a large, fenced back yard... perfect for rodent hunting! But a few years ago, my wife got it in her head that if a cat was to set-paw out back, they'd immediately be snatched up by a giant bald eagle (or some other predator). We discussed keeping Bolt as a mostly outdoor cat, but she wasn't on board with that. I have a strict rule of only ONE freeloading, full-time indoor cat at a time! :x... We currently have two. :laughing
I will be hearing "I can't believe you gave that cat away!!":madfor a while... but I have no doubt that if I don't hold the line three cats would eventually turn into nine cats.
We're both very happy that he's now in a home where he will be loved and spoiled for the rest of his days!

We’ve always had a pretty strict rule of 2 cats at a time, and we’ve always adopted 2 litter/cage mates at a time. We took my mom’s cat as a #3 at her request when she was dying, and we took Apollo in as a #3 when our neighbor in Miramonte let her cat have a litter of “barn cats.” Of course, after taking in our gray boy Mercer as a #3, and simultaneously taking in Sundae as a #4, as a wild kitten, no less, well, I gotta say, 2 cats is the perfect number. Having 4 definitely feels like way more than twice the number of 2. I love our family, though, through all the chaos and vet bills (more on that later) and my heart overflows with love and gratitude when I see these new additions all warm, safe, and happy with full bellies in our home. Totally worth it, but for sure no more cats!!
 
What do you guys use for kitty litter?
The stuff we’ve been using is way too dusty. Seems to be clay based which can’t be good for the cat’s lungs sucking all that silica into her lungs.
Looking for something less harmful.
 
Our son just turned us onto Dr. Elsey's Ultra clumping litter. We have always used non-clumping before changing early this week. The cat's didn't have any issue with the changeover. I don't flush the urine balls; they go into a lined trash can. Wally World has the best price I have found.

Fresh Step clumping unscented.

We tried the lightweight stuff for a while, and it was great that it was so light. But, boy, the dust and it tracked EVERYWHERE. We didn't realize how bad it was until after we switched back.

We buy the 40lb pack that come is 4 10lb minibags. We drag the pack into the garage, but then the 10lb back are easy to maneuver individually into the house. So its a good compromise.

It also helps that it's $9 cheaper on the PetSmart web site compared to the store price, and they honor the website price when we go pick it up, so its only, like, $18 or so.

Worlds best. That’s its name. It lasts forever, no dust, no scent. My cat sitter likes it so much that she switched to it.

Weird, I get to the pet store and saw the bag we normally buy, wasn't paying attention to the name until now. Apparently we've been buying World's Best all along. We fill the box and toss the bag which is why I didn't recognize the name when you linked it. Although its a slight different version than the one in your link, see below. Claims to be 99% dust free but is in reality insanely dusty, can't believe they're making such a claim. The good news is it's corn based dust and not clay based duct so should in theory contain a lot less silica.

Weird. We haven’t found it to be dusty. But my kitty only uses it at night when we’re sleeping. In the daytime she meows to go out. She also has white paws unlike your Void’s black murder mittens so maybe it’s more noticeable on your kitty’s paws.
 
Will give this a try. If it truly is flushable it will save an extra step.
 
Here is Sad Sack with his hand in my pocket. Mooching little bastid as he is.... His face wound appears to have healed quite well, thank goodness. SS would be an awesome cat for someone who has never had one and wants to see what cat servitude is all about. He is coming around more frequently, so in a short while I should be able to make an appointment to (cover your eyes, gentlemen) get him snipped. Poor feller.

When we got our newest cat, we decided we did not want to use the litter we were using in the past (can't remember the name, but it was one of the "major" brands). We decided to try the above which is walnut based and love it. It clumps well, very low dust and it does not get dragged all over the house.
