Here's my little '07 DRZ400SM. Mods include ram air kit, Renthal bars, aftermarket headlight, contiforce tires (160 on the rear), stage 2 jet kit, K&N air intake, and some other odds and ends. So far I am loving this little bike. It's perfect for my 12 mile surface street commute to work. I've got a rack on order so I don't have to wear my computer bag (yay).

Just what it sounds like. The snorkel is located under the rear fender, pointing outwards slightly to avoid sucking up dirt. Clever spot to mount it, as it is a good high pressure zone.

I'm gonna guess the previous owner did the 3x3 mod.

Nope, there is not a 3x3 mod. The airbox is a K&N, but is unmodified. The ram air and associated snorkel were added by the original owner. Nice little mod. I can take pics if anyone is interested.

I'll take pics tomorrow and post them. I may not have time to pull the seat/plastic to show where the snorkel goes, but I'll show you the snorkel at least. The downside of mounting it under the rear fender is that it would be bad news to go through water over about 2.5 feet deep. Of course, there are lots of other problems with water that deep anyway....

Sounds like it limits the bike's abilty to do 1 of the 4 things that bikes do - jump.

Actually, it's quite unobtrusive, and out of the way. I didn't get a chance to take a pic today, but I'll see if I can grab one tomorrow or Thursday.

brace-mounts.jpg

i have the mounts on the forks already, which is good as you have to take the forks apart to put these on, the bike came with them, but i do not know which brace or covers fit with them.. i want to put something on to help preserve my fork seals and protect the forks.

do they look familiar at all.. they don't look like the ones from src, but sort of look like the ones on michaeln's moto.

Check these:

You can almost make out the "SRC" logo on the left guard...

Broke it in the first weekend, PMed then rode to the Songdog Ranch the next. 700 miles total, Hiway 1, 58, 33, the best road was Lockwood Valley. After the ride it was AYCE BBQ Tritip and prawns washed down by lots of beer while sitting around the campfire.

Here are a couple of pics of the bike taken today. Mods since last pics: new header/pipe, LED tail light, luggage rack. The snorkel can be seen in one of the pics, in the rear fender.

Ah, I see it. Not exactly ram air, since no air is going to be forced into there. I doubt there will be any benefits to that, actually it may hurt the bike, as you suck in more dirt/water from the rear tire.

I would just stick to the tried and true 3x3 airbox mod.

Actually, that spot is quite a high pressure zone, especially at higher speeds. If I remember correctly, that mod alone necessitated a slightly larger main jet. The angle prevents stuff from flying in, and I haven't noticed my air filter fouling any more rapidly than it should.

having your snorkel exposed would in itself necessitate a larger main jet... however it is still not effectively a ram air kit... if it were to stick out the side and be pointed forward and having air forced or "rammed " into the airbox then sure... so lets name thjis new mod! the reverse snorkler, or maybe the bam air kit ( backwards ram air)
