So I'm building an 08 SV650 to race next season and am in the market for a Power Commander. I'm debating between the 3 and 5, and can't tell the difference between the two (less form factor). Is the 5 worth the $80+ delta of the 3?

the PC3 can accommodate a quick shifter. The PC5 can hook up an autotune unit. I think those are the main differences...?

Thanks for the feedback. Not interested in the autotune so maybe the PC3 is the way to go.

PCV added a lot of features. Are they useful to you? I dunno.

- Map switching if you want a map for pump and a map for race fuel
- Gear position input and mapping by gear
- Map adjustment table that uses an analog input like intake temp or airbox pressure to alter fueling

The PCV also does ignition mapping unlike the III, so no need to buy a separate module. I dunno what the ignition module costs but I think it was around the $80 figure that you mentioned.

The PVC also handles a quickshifter, that is not different between the two.

Check this out-

Reduced size from PCIII USB - less than half of the size of Power Commander III
USB powered from computer, 9 volt adapter is no longer needed for programming
"Warm Up" fuel adjustment reads engine temp and allows fuel/timing adustments based on the reading
2 position map switching function built in (map switch not included)
Gear/Speed input allows for map adjustment based on gear and speed
Analog input allows user to install any 0-5 volt sensor and build an adjustment table based on its input such as boost or temperature
With gear position input connected the PCV is capable of allowing each cylinder to be mapped individually and for each gear - for example: on a 4 cylinder bike with a six speed transmission there could be up to 24 separate fuel tables
Unit has a -100/+250% fuel change range (up from -100/+100%), this allows more adjustment range for 8 injector sportbikes
10 throttle position columns (up from 9 on PCIII USB)
Enhanced “accel pump” utility for increased adjustment and sensitivity ranges
Made in the USA

As someone who has had a PC3 & PCV on an SV, if you're racing, the real advantages are:

1. Fuel map switch support
2. Smaller.
3. No more stupid 9V battery for programming

You can play with the ignition map, but there are very small gains to be had. If you're not running race gas, there's probably no reason to mess with this.

But yeah, if you ever want to run race fuel, then having a switch vs. reprogramming it is well worth it- that's why I upgraded and glad I did.

Thanks for all of the feedback folks. I think for my needs, the PC3 is the way to go. I'll be running pump gas.

If you need one of those stupid 9 volt chargers I can put mine in the mail for you I no longer have any use for it :)

That would be great! Thanks. Much appreciated. :thumbup
