Power tools: cordless for general purpose around the house..

I've had ryobi stuff that lasted for ages and other stuff that was junk. Most of my corded stuff is dewalt.

My makita 18v liIon stuff has been *awesome*. Hammer drill, recipsaw and burr grinder.. Buy once cry once, but I found a killer deal on the makita shop on amazon..
If you go the multiple tool package route, get the one with more batteries as opposed to some tool you will never use..

Since we're all voting for whatever brand we happen to own, I'm gonna put in my suggestion for Ridgid.

Bought an 18v ultrasuperduperhyperlithiumion(words) drill and driver set about 14 months ago, and I use them for work, in much tougher service than they'd ever see in most homes. Held up beautifully, they take a serious beating, the battery life is very impressive, and there's a lifetime warranty on everything, including the batteries. :thumbup

Fak I forget about that ridgid mini saw I have, which is also really good. :)

Yeah and the comments above about hilti are right. Surprised noone mentioned Bosch..

I like Bosch and usually buy refurbished tools, never had a problem with refurbs unless they fell of a ladder. these guys have a great selection and you can get high quality stuff for the price of some of the cheaper ones.

Festools are really well engineered(sometimes overly so) and stupid expensive but tools like their domino are pretty amazing and save me a lot of time. Whats worse is their fans kinda rabid and don't like people talking bad about them.

Onick likes Rigid because innuendo. :x

just stay away from black & decker. I had one..fisher price drill I used to call it. I've have a DeWalt and it's great for all those manly drill tasks, like hanging up frames and towel rods...
