Predictions for Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz in UFC 196?

George Roop 6'1" fights at 135.
There's plenty of tall guys that have fought at lightweight and middleweight

But how much weight does a guy like that cut and rehydrate to? My biggest objection to weight cuts is I think they are dangerous. Is it a weigh in at 135 and fight at 145? When the whole field is doing that what's the point?

Nate Diaz has 29 fights on his record. Four of those fights were at WW, the rest were at LW. Nate Diaz is a LW fighter, the fight against Connor was not a WW fight, Connor did not move up two weight divisions. The Nate Connor fight was simply a fight where neither fighter had to cut weight to make the agreed limit.

Well, there's not really a way to ensure that no one does that. Hydration tests don't work and there's enough money in the UFC to where competitors would lie about it for an edge over their opponent.

My opinion on the matter is that the agreed weight class ensures fairness. Both parties agree to the weight class before the fight, and their only responsibility is to make weight on weigh-in day, not how they did it. That includes diet, hydration, drugs (diuretics/IV's) if necessary as long as it's not against the rules. Just my .02 even though I agree that in an ideal world, people would fight in healthy condition.

The fight was booked as a welterweight fight and recognized as such by the athletic commission. Whether one cuts weight or not doesn't change the weight limit? Otherwise Frankie Edgar choosing not to cut whole fighting at LW (he openly fought at LW with no cutting) wouldn't have been lightweight champ lol


It WAS a ww fight, just Diaz moved up from LW to do so. It 100% was a welterweight fight. It was not a catche weight fight or an open weight bout. It had an official limit, both fighters were marginally under it (1 and 2 lbs).

There are fighters who choose not to cut weight, and some of them do very well

How about that grappling. Diaz put a clinic on how to transition and control an opponent. Like a Grizzly Bear mauling a deer.
 
Make weighins same day as the fight and you won't see people cutting any more. Problems and excuses gone.

I like Conor. He is a great fighter but I also enjoy his verbal style. I like to talk shit and so does he.

But I realize sometimes that even though I can dominate any confrontation, I don't feel good every time I push it to the limit.

Of course, I only do it with someone who is asking for it, but because I am so good at it, it can go to places where I am unhappy when we get there.

The pre-fight hype is a good example. Yes, it sells tickets to act like Diaz is his worst enemy, but regardless of the outcome, it makes Conor look like an unnecessary douche.
