Prius hits 8 year old, he didn't hear it...

ya i heard one come on briefly.. heard it for about 10 seconds.. then it just got very quiet and glided away.. sucks..maybe they will adding loud exhausts..lol.. or even make a sound box for it.

title could read:

Proud hits kid who shouldn't have been in street

Or

Prius hits kid. Darwin loses this round.

There's nothing inherently dangerous about a Prius, the same way there's nothing inherently dangerous about a motorcycle. It's all about the operator.

not unless the kid came out runing behind another car and the car was already moving at the speed limit. lets say the driver floored the breaks but there was not enough distance for the car to stop.. thats not the operators fault..

Maybe people should teach their kids to look both ways before venturing out in the street. I admit I've been caught off guard a few times by hybrids while I was crossing the street because I couldn't hear them, but it's not like they're invisible too.

For real. What's the dumb kid doing in the street when he doesn't even look where he's going? LETS BLAME THE EVIL CAR.

It could have been another bicycle or a runaway rickshaw, why is it the car's fault? At all.

Writing legislation to require the Prius to make some kind of noise is the second most retarded thing ever.

back in the day, you got taken out by a tiger if you didn't look both ways before crossing the trail in the jungle.

Humans are pitiful. And getting worse all the time.

That's why blind people are complaining about hybrid cars, they can't hear them.

(I believe there was a thread in the Sink not too long ago about that.)

i thought the article had a point about how blind people depend on the sounds of oncoming vehicles to know about their surroundings, they can't exactly "look both ways"

and the kid's 8..all kids make stupid spur of the moment decisions, didn't you? just glad he wasn't seriously injured

Reminds me of a stupid stunt I used to pull when I was little. I would be riding my bike and just fly across this one busy street without looking at the corner. There was a little gap between the 1st and 2nd house on the right that I'd check to see if anything was coming from that way, and I'd just listen for traffic from the other direction. I don't know how many times I pulled that stunt until one day my mom saw me do it. She was less than pleased. :laughing

Its amazing I didn't get creamed doing that...back in the days before helmets!
