RAF Harrier Crash Landing in Kandahar

Way to ride that bitch out, I would have ejected as soon as that tail slapped the runway! That pilot has balls.

I hope his back is ok. I hear that ejection seat can cause some messed up problems due to the force

seemed to be a bit late with the ejection seat.

Very impressed, pilot rode it out till the end.

So what happened, mechanical malfunction, pilot error?

AN RAF top gun was forced to eject as his Harrier jump jet crash-landed in the Afghan badlands yesterday.
The pilot escaped with minor injuries as the plane smashed into the runway at Kandahar Air Base.

Mechanical failure is being blamed, with the jet's undercarriage failing to lower as it came in to land.

It is the second Harrier to be lost at the troops' hub in southern Afghanistan. One was badly damaged by a Taliban rocket strike two years ago.

The ageing jets will replaced by Tornado GR4s in the summer.

The MoD said: "The exact cause is not yet known. There is currently no suggestion it was caused by enemy action."

RAF jet bursts into flames on landing -- pilot escapes with minor injuries

Footage has emerged of the moment an RAF pilot was forced to hit the ejector seat when a landing at Kandahar airfield, Afghanistan.

The video, shot in last year when the crash happened but only just online, shows how the heroic British aviator touched down and his Harrier jet burst into flames.

The RAF pilot is believed to have suffered only minor injuries.

Back in May 2009 the MoD said there was no suggestion the incident was caused by enemy action and that a technical error was most likely the reason.

Hats off to the pilot. And we thought we were brave taking on a pro-wrestler at thumb war!
