RANT: kids (parents) these days

Think some southeast Asian cultures do this.
This was a point of discussion in my household. It was simply culture to SWMBO. To me it was misrepresenting the facts. We met in the middle by explaining it to the Kid (once she was able to comprehend it). The Kid will still occasionally confirm if an Auntie is actually a family member. Most of the time she can figure it out herself.

Using Mr, Mrs, Miss or Mam used to be a sign of respect. If I haven’t been told different, I will still use those terms when addressing people I don’t know. And I’m nearly 75.

But my neighbors are all on a first name basis.

I find it irritating when saying "excuse me miss" only to hit with a nasty "I'TS MIZ!", and the "I'M NOT A MADAM, DONT CAll ME MAM!. Jesus, some people look real hard to be offended. Those were the proper respectful addresses when I was a kid. Miss if you didn't know. Mam as a gesture of respect.
i enjoy being called ma’am. especially when there’s a ‘yes’ in front of it lol.

In 1974 I was gifted two moppets to raise. They already had a 'daddy', my wife struggled with how her kids should address me, fatherhood terms didn't seem quite right.

I was the one who suggested the kids just use my name, that the emotional component will follow along just fine.

Fifty years now my correct name has done just fine because the emotional lock is solid.

"What is in a name, that which we call a rose would smell just as sweet by any other name." Bill What's-his-name.
