rear ending someone, is it always ur fault?

This "encouraging people to cut you off" thing is something people come up with to justify driving aggro. If you've got two seconds following distance people don't have to cut you off, they can slide in nice and easy and they don't have to break hard. Then you let off the gas slightly and reestablish your following distance.

It's not a race and the person who merges in front isn't beating you. It all goes so much more smoothly if you just chill.

Most other people on the road are pretty passive anyway. Letting people merge in front isn't going to result in the entire highway going into your lane, most people stay where they are. The heroes who dart from lane to lane will leave yours as quickly as they came and you just move back up a little.

this was on 280 at 6pm on the 2nd lane, 1st lane was the fast lane. didnt want to lane split cus there was a lot of cars but now that i think about it, this wouldntve happened if i was...

or if i left even more space between us but i thought that it would encourage ppl to cut me off.
havnt u ever had ppl cut u off and then brake hard cus they r too close to the car that was in front of u?

It has not happened since I got a headlight modulator. People see me coming and want nowhere near me.

Lanesplitting at 40-60mph would unlikely have been any safer than following a car at 4 car lengths.

Follow at a safer distance and allow more time for your journey. Don't rush to an early grave - we are very vulnerable out there.

My old neighbor was rear ended and she was found to be at fault.
She pulled out onto the roadway in front of a car and then immediately hit the brakes because of a guy on a bike. I drove with her a couple of times and yes she was a terrible driver.
No she was not hawt.
RC

How "not hawt" is she ?

Actually the OP has a good point and I hope someday this is a precedent for banning all tinted rear-windows. It's that way in Germany for example. And for a reason

I agree, but I just deal with it by way of not allowing a vehicle I can't see through to remain in front of me.

i rear-ended a drunk driver once! he even took off!
guess what? it was still my fault

No, that's not a good point, it's blamestorming for his own fuck up. Tinted windows aren't the problem here.

I know a lady who slammed on her brakes to keep from hitting a squirrel (gray) that darted into the road just a few feet in front of her. The car that hit her from behind was a police car. Guess who was found to be at fault.

uhmm not tryin to blame anyone for followin the car too closely, also i never said anythin about tinted windows, just said i couldnt see wut was in front of the car cus it was like a bigass suv, the sky was the only thin i could see through the back windows

Looking through the car in front is generally a suboptimal solution. I have done it, but only as a last resort.

If you brake checked a cop because somebody brake checked you and you got him to hit you in the slow lane, would he be at fault for tailgating you?

This happend to my brother and yes the cop was deemed to be at fault. :thumbup
