Recommend A Messenger Bag

I'm of the opinion that wearing any bag or backpack is a bad idea on a bike should you ever go down. My opinion, get the shoulder bag you like, and when you're riding, strap it to the seat, rack or tank.

Mission Workshop (previous partner of Timbuk2 who wanted to do something different).

PAC Designs (crafter still makes one off bags) you can dig around the web for how to contact her.

You pay for what you get.

Mission Workshop is the only stop for Courier Bags in my view. Their shop is local, great service and bombproof bags.

Timbuk2 was good in the 90s (I had one save my head and spine in a crash) but are complete trendy garbage now. Same goes for the other courier bags I see at sports shops etc.

I'm finding these messenger bags to be yuge for what I need. I only carry a laptop, phone cables, a pen, a small notebook, and maybe a sammie. One thing I don't like about the Nike messenger-wannabe rucksack is it blocks the right mirror.

+1 for Mission Workshop. When I bought my backpack a few years back I found the Messenger bag straps a bit short but I love my backpack and it's dealt with commuting on my bicycle perfectly.

A+ in function and price, but unless I'm off to work at a gun range, it wouldn't meet the hip criteria.

Nonsense, just sew some contrarian patches on to it and it'll be all "look at me makin' a statement" and such. How much more hip is that?

I can do without the seatbelt thing, but it does make for a good party favor when someone thinks it's funny to push the seatbelt button and you punch them in the nose.

Add a velcro strap to it and never have to worry about this again!

This is what you want.

But this is what you actually need.

Bags hanging off of you on a motorcycle gets pretty fucking old pretty fucking fast. Not worth it. Hard luggage, and never look back.

Quick update. A very generous BARFer gifted me an old Timbuk2 in very good shape. There's a person in Sonoma selling new Ortliebs for a good discount. Just waiting to confirm size and colour.

I just do get this. Unless you are an actual messenger/delivery/courier and need repeated access to the contents - wtf would you want to put up with all the compromises that are inherent in a messenger bag??

This is what you THINK you want. :laughing

Yup, been there done that. You only have to wrestle a messenger bag that's slipped round you mid corner - once :wow :x

Yes, been there. However, the Timbuk2 bags come with cross strap and buckle like below. My one-shoulder camera bag has a similar setup.

why not both? I put my messenger bag in my top case. that way when I get where I'm going I don't have to carry around my top case like an idiot.:laughing

Some of us are of a height that isn't conducive to backpacking. Especially when we're in a forward lean. The backpack bumps against our helmets and restricts visibility. The next time you see a short guy (or woman) on a bike with a huge backpack you'll see what I'm talking about.

So basically it becomes a badly designed back-pack :thumbup
