Are all the companies the same more or less? I got my W-2s and I want to get her done quickly. Turbo Tax seems to have a "Free" service but I'm afraid they will lead me down a long and arduous path just to ask for money in the end.

edit: and yes, it says fililng

The "premier" version of Turbotax (which you need if you have investments) includes e-file this year.

I've been using it for the last few years, and it works very well.

I do have investments but haven't actually sold anything yet. So I don't need to file them.

the free online systems are great if you have a simple return (single, no kids, std deduction, no investments, no home, etc). Ok so I'm exaggerating a bit, but the moment you want to do anything a bit more complex they will hit you up for more money.

I use the pay version, but I split the cost with my father. I send it in on paper, I figure why pay extra money to e-file and in the process make it easier for the state computers to auto-rob you.

I use Turbo Tax every year for free federal file and just mail in my state return cuz I normally dont get money back from the state or its such a small amount that I can wait the 4-6 weeks for the check.

They do ask if you want to use the pay version but in the end, to do a simple federal filing, its free. :thumbup

I get a 15% discount from my bank if I use Turbo Tax. It's free to e-file federal taxes this year.

My guy didn't tell me I could get one of these???

The premier or deluxe (I can't remember which option I used) version of TurboTax is money well spent over the basic version. This is with regards to a large percentage of your income and your hemming and hawwing over a twenty? The right deduction or categorization could save you thousands. The wrong one could cost you thousands.
