So im looking for a new set of bars for my drz400sm. I was wondering which one you guys run? Also what bend would you guys recommend?

I don't think it makes any difference. There are other companies that make 1 1/8" bars as well. There are many different bends to suit your needs and your size. Higher rise are typically used for dirt application where standing is a common riding technique that requires handlebar adjustments to fit the rider size. On an SM, I don't see that as being much of a factor. To put the 1 1/8" bars on you will likely be using an adapter which will raise the bars a little bit already. I would think a low rise bar would be best. I think my bars (DRZ400s) have the YZ bend which is fine for me.

There's nothing magical about any of them. Just find a bend you like. I went with the Pro-Taper Woods Lo, because it is a touch narrower than MX bars, has a bit more sweep, and is nice and low. I previously had the Henry/Reed bend.

There isn't a quality/material strength/design reason to chose one over the other.

Bend is your choice, no one else can say which bend is better for you.

You should see what bend (angles, and rise) the bar makers list in their catalog, and then set on the MX/ SuperMoto bikes, and feel how the various angles check out with your wrists. Then, when you find what you like the best, see if the bar maker has that bend, or how close they come to that bend.

Oh by the way, Mini MX bikes have the narrower width, that works better for street use.
Full MX width...isn't such a hot thing for the street.

Do you have handguards installed on your bike?

If so get the same thickness handlebars or you will have to buy new mounts for your handguards.

WTF are you talking about mate? Everyone uses full width on the street for SMs and I've never seen anyone running mini bars on a full sized bike.

Yes you have, although you may not have noticed :) my KTM had Mini Hi bars on it

I guess I was more concerned about making sure you were ok and getting your bike started after your dirt nap.

Mini bars on big bikes are the exception to what you see everyone running. Full size mx bars work fine for street motards and there is no reason not to use them. Things may be different on a ZX10 with scotts damper...

Mini MX bars are 3" narrower than full size MX bars.

That does work better on the street (but...of course gobs of riders will exercise their right to be wrong :laughing).

Everyone knows, things are different on a ZX-10, that is the beauty of the ZX-10,
it is what the others can't deliver. :cool

Why do you think narrower bars are better? I've just installed bars that are an inch and a half narrower than stock and I'm regretting it for that reason.

Why did you install bars that are 1 1/2 inches narrower? Were you unhappy with the stock bars? Were the stock bars the same width as full width MX bars?

Can you describe the why of your not liking your bars now?

If the MX bar is just right for the track (tighter turns requiring wider bar for more leverage), it'd be too wide for the street (narrower bar for quicker steering), and vice versa. Two different riding environments, and you'd adjust your equipment accordingly.

Cutting down (or increasing) handlebar width will make the bike feel very weird at first. Give it some time to get used to it before making conclusions.

It was a total mess up. I went to an event and had a chance to try a bike identical to mine with the protaper SE ATV mid bend and I loved it right away. Taller, not much wider. Just felt more natural seated or standing.

Get home and order the protaper contour ATV mids and couldn't figure out why they didn't feel great until I discovered my mistake.

I guess I'm also mad at myself because I didn't get nearly the rise.

I also went to bark busters. :laughing

So basically I went from a 32.5 wide bar + bar ends to a 31.5 inch wide with guards.

Haven't seemed quite comfortable when I'm in the hills.

But yeah, I'm going to give myself time to get used to it. Not much choice.

I was 100% fine, just a little sore and overheated...

and yeah, it was fucking weird that the bike would start and idle some, and then stall hard enough to lock the back tire in 2nd gear. No clue wtf caused that.
