I watched a guy back out of a driveway and CRUNCH the side of a Honda that was parked on the other side of the street a few hours ago. I stood there to see what he was going to do, and made a note of his plate number. He got out, wrote something down, and then drove away.

I left a note on the under the wiper on the Civic with details (time, plate number, my email address) and it was gone an hour later. I don't know if the owner picked it up, or the guy who did the damage. For some reason, I'm thinking the latter.

I'm a little torn... the Civic doesn't have any plates, so if I tell the cops what I saw, the guy might get towed. If I don't call them, and the hit-and-run guy is the one that picked up the note, he'll probably pick up the second note I left, and the Civic owner won't know who to point the finger at.

Should I call the cops and report it?

yeah... id call... shit that car could be stolen... no plates? hhhmmm

Leave a note on the car that got hit with your name and phone number. You're a witness to a hit and run.

I would. I would hope somebody would if my car got hit.

I would want to have it on the record too, normally, but by being a good samaritan and calling it in, I might cause the guy some financial hardship by inadvertently getting him towed.

I guess it'd be better to have to pay to get it un-impounded than having to pay for the bodywork.

Uh Rel, did you even read the post?

Can you slip a piece of paper through the window or anything?

I did, and it's gone. I left a second note.

I kind of hoped that I'd get a quick email from the victim, just to confirm that they got the info. The first note disappeared ~4 hours ago...

Nope. It's sealed up nice and tight.

I'm tempted to use magic marker on his window though... it'd be a hassle for an unscrupulous person to remove quickly, but the owner could live with it while it fades, if it meant that they knew what happened.

LOL... sure write on his window.. haha, people nowadays will press charges for that, you will just be trying to help, and end up being charged with damaging or defacing property.. lol

:thumbup

Good looking out. Maybe you could cram the note in the door seam so it won't come out until it's opened?

Yea call even though he left a note.

I came home yesterday and some asshat knocked over my bike. Broke off both mirrors, and my right rearset. He left a note too, and it said "Sorry I knocked over your bike". With no other information. He probably only wrote the note to make it look like he was putting his contact information down so no one would report him.

Happy ending...

The victim found my 4th note (yes, the first THREE went "missing"), went literally across the street, showed the resident what it said, and the guy confessed.

Thanks, lets hope it comes back quickly - I recently submitted my resume for a dozen positions at UCSF Medical Center and one for KQED. Hopefully something comes along soon.
