Last week, I went to reverse shifting, and I'm finding that I really like it. I thought it would take a long time to get used to it, but if I don't think about it, it goes really well. Thinking about it, though, on a couple of occasions, has led to confusion, which led to sudden really loud high revs, but for the most part, it seems to actually be easier than standard shifting. The only consistent problem area has been leaving from a dead stop- 2nd gear starts FTL! :laughing Let's hope I've got this down before the next track day! :teeth

I like it quite a bit too. It's not as necessary on a four-stroke as it was on a bike with a narrower powerband, but it's still handy. My upshifts are quicker this way.

Been doing it for years.

And with my right foot instead of the left.

Anyone who rides an old Norton or Royal Enfield can tell you all about it.

I don't like it so much because I find myself having to shift down faster than having to shift up on the street.

love it

Easier to get false neutrals downshifting though...found out more than once coming into T1 and T14 at thill :|

Now I do very sharp downshifts

I dig it and had it on my ol' Gixxer 750. None of the other bikes I've owned were readily able to be swapped; just had to flip a knuckle on the Gixxer. If I could do it to every bike w/o much trouble, I would.

I love and hate it. all my bikes are set up for GP shift. Its great when your leaned over in a turn and need to up shift but the down side is IMHO is that you can upshift faster than downshift. so when your setting up for a turn it takes a lil more effort to get set up, but you do have faster corner exit speed with the quick upshifts.

I mounted some rearsets on my Enfield 750 once which used a linkage. I set it so it was upside down, which is rightside up for most bikes. I didn't like it that way and flipped the lever down instead of up.

Remote linkage gearshifts are cool.

I love it now that I don't have my dirt bike (which wasn't able to switch over to gp shifting) going between two bikes with different shifting sucks

I liked it until I got back into riding dirt. I didn't want to make any mistakes so I swapped it back to have both bikes identical.

is that like the art of fighting without fighting?

so what are the bennies of doing this? Isn't it the same thing just reversed? Is it the fact that you mash down instead of up and that is faster somehow? I guess I don't get it since I am not on a bike that is setup reverse style.

It's main uses are at the track, where you traditionally have less time to upshift (ie shifting while transitioning between corners or WOT clutchless upshifting) than you do to down shift (in braking zones)

Also if you need to shift while slightly leaned, you have more ground clearance and don't have to fiddle with your foot position as much to bang off a quick up-shift.

I used to run it,then I drug the shifter on the track and backshifted the bike and almost launched to the moon.Standard shift is fine with me....Robbie

Did it a while back and scared the shit out of myself a few times grabbing 1st when I needed 3rd REAL bad. Switched back. Then started riding the track a lot more and went back. LOVE IT now. I did it to ease shifting in turns as I have huge feet. Found the added bonus of being able to bang throug gears faster fun too.

Takes a little practice on multiple down-shifts goinginto corners but not much.
