Review of Shoei RF 1200

The RF-1200 is also missing that little rubber lip at back bottom of the helmet on the RF-1100. Helmet comes with a pinlock lens and all new shields are pinlock ready.

Enjoyed the fit/feel free of buyer's remorse after reading this review (my RF-1100 has all the cam mounts though) :thumbup Now the shop just has to call me when it gets in...

1200 is 'intermediate oval'. 1100 is not

I have a arai profile head but this intermediate seems to fit ok. I have not worn mine on a ride yet. nice that it comes with a pin lock shield.

Yep, my Arai helmets are Profile, too! I'm really pleased with the fit of this helmet... super-snug, but no pressure points anywhere. Hoping to go out riding tomorrow! :)

So let me get this straight? You wore the helmet once and now it's the best thing ever?

You're kidding, right? I've been wearing helmets of all sorts since the mid-80's. I've spent a couple of hours with this lid on, and to date, it's the best helmet I've worn. How many times do I need to wear it to figure out it has the biggest field of vision of any helmet I've worn to date? How many times do I need to wear it to figure out that it's the quietest helmet of any I've worn to date? The only thing I don't know is how it's going to hold up over time... but Shoei has a great reputation for making quality products, so I'm not worried.

I guess you don't pay a whole lot of attention to bike shootouts in the magazines, either... because how could those guys take the bikes out on the track once and know if they're any good... :laughing

OK, skipped around a bit through that 15 minute commercial. Some of the changes I saw that I would care most about:

-looks about 5% smaller than RF-1100 (less astronaut-y)
-Pinlock standard (but I already have those for my RF-1100)
-Smooth EPS liner, as opposed to the ridged one in the RF-1100, which might improve helmet hair.

Mind you I have not tried on the RF-1200 yet but my interest is piqued. Next time I'm at CG.

Your first bj wasn't the best thing ever?

Did he not like it? :laughing

OMG o Snap!! :laughing

This is one of the things I love about BARF... we can go from "awesome helmet!" to "blowjob" faster than the speed of light!! :rofl

I sure didn't tell the BARF community that it was the best thing in the world. :twofinger

I've worn a ton of helmets and have owned a ton of bikes. I couldn't recommend anyone of them to anyone after just 3 hours of use. But to each their own. And honestly, how am I suppose to take a review seriously when you say the shops name that you got it from, and the fact that it was free (your sponsor)

Connie, you're great. I've met you a few times and always hear stories about helping friends and random barfers in need. This isn't a dig at you, not even in the slightest. Happy trails!

I think where she got the helmet is irrelevant. I've never met her, but judging from her posts over the years, she doesn't strike me as someone who would post a bogus review just to please her sponsor.

Im just more pissed shoei didnt keep the same visor design, because of my $100 chrome visor on my 1100 I wont be upgrading to the 1200 anytime soon.

I had a gold spectre for my rf-1000, and am thoroughly annoyed to pay this marked up price for plastic visor

If the helmet wasn't as good as my Arai, I absolutely wouldn't have done a review. I simply would have kept the helmet for street, and then just bought another Arai for racing. Truth is, I was so surprised by the helmet in comparison to my Arai helmet, that that's what spurred my decision to write the review.
If the review doesn't help you, no worries... you've been through enough helmets to know what you like! :) :thumbup

Pretty much this. Thanks! And I really am impressed with the helmet! :)

$100? For a visor? Wow... I haven't ridden with a clear visor in probably 3 years... I've been using the lightest tinted visor Arai makes, it's been perfect. I'm hoping Shoei has something similar... and that I won't have to sell a kidney to pay for it... *crosses fingers*

Well dang. The emergency pull tab sure is something I think every helmet should have. I bought a RF1000 back in 2009 that I've only worn once, and that was to race a car. Now it looks like I'll upgrade to this RF1200 soon when I get back into a bike in a few months.

I could not agree more! While I hope like hell I never need it, it's very reassuring knowing it's there! :thumbup

Yup. I love gimmicks. Oh that coffee maker has a touch screen control panel? Then that's the one I want. (Is there even such a thing? I don't even drink coffee, but if there's a coffee maker that has that I'm gettin it when and if her current one craps out.)

But the pull tab is a gimmick that can actually potentially save you from some life altering injuries so that's a no brainer (no pun) thing you should get.
