Ricky Gervais brilliant opening monologue at the Golden Globes

Hot take:

"I just like how we're all pretending he absolutely destroyed everyone and the network.

Fucking NBC uploaded the entire monologue to Youtube themselves, it has over a million view already. It's a monotized clip. People are literally handing NBC money just so they can sit in their seat and feel smug about watching a man who likely was paid more than they make in a year stand on stage for the FIFTH time and razz some celebrities for a bit.

Then nothing changed. The pedophiles kept being pedophiles, human trafficking still continued unabated, our entire political system is still on fire, Hollywood is still a breeding ground for abuse of all kinds, people are still woefully distracted by propaganda and media consumption, and we're all still constantly being manipulated by the elite.

But boy those rich people sure did look slightly uncomfortable for a little bit! We got em boys! Pack it up, Hollywood is destroyed!

What an absolute fucking joke."

^^^ You sir, are a prophet. (well or at least the person you're quoting)

Facts that ring true. Short sentences ending abruptly. And NOTHING changed in the TWELVE (12!) hours since The Monologue, by Ricky Gervais?

This pretty much proves the hypocrisy of Hollywood AND the existence of the Worldwide Cabal!!!!!!1

:laughing

Well,... we'll see if something changed in 12 MONTHS when they do/or don't invite Ricky Gervais to speak again. I personally took it as something funny, and not necessarily something important. I was equally concentrated at looking at the awesome tables with Scorcese, De Niro and Leonardo+me. I don't think the whole speech is all that important.

- He's also a Hollywood actor and just because he's hired to have a big mouth doesn't make him better than the people he's insulting
- They paid him and he accepted
- He's still making movies and TV as far as I know
- Only people who care are tuning in. I couldn't care less and thus didn't
- I'm not sure what he thinks we're supposed to "feel".

It was a dialog.
It was supposed to be funny, while making some people in the audience feel uncomfortable.
It was well done.

Not sure why people are trying to over-analyze it.

Jokewoked!

It was funny and different. Following up on his twitter takes this was timely.

The whole show for me is just a pop culture back slapping as it always has been. All good for those that embrace the medium.. and most of the rest of us skip it.

I appreciate the link.. it was funny and very different. Whomever thought this was crushing Hollywood is a little off.

As he mentioned in his monologue they're just jokes.
What were you expecting. He was never going to be the guy to solve world hunger.

There's a reason he's hosted 5 times, he moves the needle and generates $$$. They, networks and studios, don't really care what he has to say because in about a week it will be forgotten.

What was different about what he did?

Is the the Greta Thunberg of Hollywood now for stating the obvious?

Also when you go "jokes, jokes" after telling a mean joke it takes away the edge.

So what? A kick to the nuts is better than no kick at all.

So, I was waiting for the end of this so I could get my local weather out of KCRA in SLO.
The GG ran long?
Unheard of.

Anyway did you catch his final words as he closed out the show?

Something like; you are all pretty, do your drugs now, hit your parties, or go the F%$# home.

That is what I saw, heard,
what did I miss?

Now I know.

Thanks BARF

Hollywood Award ceremonies are awesome, I mean a bunch of celebrity millionaires giving each other exclusive awards?

It's like if Billionaires got together and handed out awards for who's the best rich guy.

I stopped watching them years ago.

They keep spawning these circle-jerks to honor themselves to the point where they're pretty much meaningless.

But, I'll be a bunch of them have some very impressive award rooms! :laughing

Some people just upset when their idols get criticized in any way.
