Sam Correro, one of the most important people in the North American adventure bike scene, has died.

His death was announced earlier this week. Correro was in his late 70s, but had only been retired from his pet project, the Trans America Trail, for a few months.

:rip Sam
Condolences to family and to all the ADV Family. :rose

Here with his grandson.

I will check this out when I have a minute.

Now we have to ride the TAT before it disappears.

The video interview is great. You can see an off road sparkle in his eyes.
It seems like the ride is not this pounding difficult one, but more a wonderful wonder across some neat heartland of the USA.

Seems like it would even be doable for an old goat like me.

Want to be a token old man on my elderly women riding cheap Chinese dual sports across the TAT?
We are not nice women

My understanding is the rockies area has some challenging sections but most everything east of there could be ridden on just about anything.

There are numerous folks who made a point to do the TAT on "inappropriate" bikes, for the adventure and the clicks of course.

Speaking only from what I've seen online of course

Being a token sounds kind of cool. :laughing

I think you studly ladies will be on course far before I can be. Seems like a cool thing to do for my 70th year tour around the sun. (2028).
I need a year to learn how to pitch a tent at least. :teeth

SFMCJohn can show you how
Oh yeah he can... and how to pack and how to get killer Sunrise Pics. He would be a perfect partner for doing this for sure.
And of course.. I would have to buy a bike to do it. Sure hope I can get / stay healthy as I enter retirement so I can do fun stuff.

Any old bike will do. This idea that you need an ADV specific bike is a crock. All bikes are adventure bikes, it’s all in the tires. ;)

I really admire people like @ThumperX and you who have plans to tackle the TAT … I’ve always been too scared or too flaky to seriously consider a TAT attempt, or even to attempt some of the nearby BDR routes we have access to. :facepalm

god bless Mr Sam Correro, who had an epic idea, and made it happen back in the daze of paper maps and roll charts. what a hero. :rose :ride

(a wonderful, easy, intermediate step toward preparing for a TAT adventure and exercises in moto camping and setting up and sleeping in tents are our twice-yearly StonyBARF events. super-cheap, show-up-or-don’t style, tons of motorcycle fellowship around the campfire. suspect you’d enjoy making an appearance at a StonyBARF, one of these days, Mr budman. :angel)

What an inspiration. RIP and condolences to the family. That was a great interview and am going to put the TAT on my bucket list.

RIP Sam I got to ride the entire TAT thanks to you. I almost had a chance to meet him and go for a ride when I was riding the Mississippi TAT but the timing wasn't right. I think his home is on the TAT maps also.

You can pretty easily ride the TAT on a KLR650, that's the best bike for the TAT in my opinion. The most difficult sections are Utah and Colorado. And some of Oregon.
