Cycling Equipment

if any of you need equipment let me know, I work for a company that distributes high end road and tri athlon bikes and components

Always willing to hook a BARF member up !

Next week I find out if I will be getting the new shoulder at the end of the year. Wether I get that or not decides wether I'll be joining some of you at these events. I'm going to keep up to date though as even if the surgery is scheduled I want to train with you anyway right up to the moment.

And Bap I've still got the letter granting us access into next years Muddy Buddy. Hopefully I can attend it this time but I will definitely give you more notice this time if my surgery will conflict. Shin splints kept me out of this years Muddy Buddy but I've more ot less dealt with it via really exspensive shoes and my own sort of shadetree chi running technique though I still have minor issues if I push to hard. I'm up to about 3 miles now and could probably go further if pushed. I am really interested with the Chi running course. If one is scheduled out here again then I'm a definite.

Cool! I'm shopping around for a Tri bike.
I test rode a Cervelo P3C a few months ago and loved it. Now I need it!! :)

Once I sell my Specialized Enduro, I'll be in the market for one too :) Probably won't be til Spring, but I'm definitely interested.

Good luck at Treasure Island this weekend!

I would like a set of Krysium wheels and the Dura Ace carbon cranks please. Some Campangolo carbon record shifters and derailleurs would be nice too:cool

Or I could use a new water bottle:p

I'm signed up for Ironman Florida in '08. :teeth

That's awesome :) How hard was it to get a slot?

I'm hoping for IM Coeur d'Alene in 09 - doubt I'd be ready for something before that!

You know I'm down for that. I just picked up Mikey's old MTB so I'll be ready ;)

I did a few sprint triathlons last year & Xterra this year. I've been off the training wagon for 8 months (work & laziness) but I just started training again last week - I'll be very interested to keep up with this thread!

2008 Goals (if they don't conflict with SMUSA)

Xterra
at least 1 10K
Granite Bay Triathlon
Golden State Triathlon

2009

Olympic Distance

Thanks for the added inspiration!

Good stuff :) Just wondering - which Xterra did you do? I'm kinda curious as to which local trails bear the most resemblance to Xterra bike courses.

Are you leaning towards any particular Olympic distance tri?

I was one of the lucky ones. There are 1800 slots.

It sold out in 15 minutes.

I originally wanted to do CDA next year, but I waited too long to register and it sold out. I want to do it in '09, so let's plan to make a BARF presence. :)

Mikey, where's the closest bike shop to us? I think I need to clip in. My feet are all over the place every time I get a little air. Where do you recommend I go near me? Already got pedals coming, need good but economical shoes.

Mike's Bikes is a good chain shop over on University, but Performance Bicycle Shop near REI in Berkeley is hard to beat as far as prices go. Looking at the website, their shoes start around $50.

I've never used their house brand shoes, but Heather / DucatiHoney uses hers for roadbiking. She hasn't said anything bad about them yet!

I did the Granite Bay Xterra. It was by far the toughest event I've done. TBF racing puts on Mountain Bike Duathlons before the event - so you can practice a very similar course. There were lots of hills, sand pits, mud and mostly smooth trails with a few technical rock sections that are not too difficult.

The swim was intense! Swimming is (actually was) my strong point - so I try to start up front. For Xterra it is a mass start. So 400+ people hit the water at the same time - lots of kicking, scratching, hitting, people swimming over people & others trying to grab your foot to pull themselves forward! It was fun!

The run was hilly - but I had nothing left after the bike. I like my tri bike on the road course better!

Any recomendations for an Olympic distance - the Wildflower looks fun.
