Anyone know where to get a broken window replaced in my rv. Tried about 20 places today and no luck.

Auto Glass shops might do RV windshields, door windows. The RV other windows likely no.

CampingWorld services RVs. There's one at Cordiela Junction (Fairfield). Heh can kill some time waiting at the miniture golf course :D

While I'd like to mention a RV sales, repair place we used. I can't really recommend it.

Tried camping world and no go. I've just found a good opening for an unemployed glass cutter in the bay area. Open up an RV glass repair shop:)

Try R Mechanic in Livermore at (925) 294-9645.

I have no personal experience with them, but I've heard only good things. And every time I drive by there, they have a ton of motorhomes in their yard, so they must be doing something right. Also JC's RV in Livermore has a collision repair shop, so they might also do glass. 1-(800)229-5278.

IIRC, the problem your going to run into is...

It's tempered glass. Which can NOT be cut to fit, once tempered. The only things you can do is.. Either call up a shop that services that specific make / model (or the manufacturer themselves).. Or, just replace it with a piece of tinted plexi glass.

Honestly, I'd go the DIY plexi and some tint film if it was me.

I believe there are only a few window manufacturers that make most RV windows. You should be able to order replacement glass from whichever company makes yours. What kind of RV is it? How old? Are they single pane windows or double pane?

It's a 1994 national seabreeze. Single glaze. Some scum of the earth pos shot it out sometime last night with a pellet gun. I've called all the auto glass place's i can find and no one does them. I'm sure they are standard size for most rv's. How does the plexi glass look when it's done. Is it anyway similar.
Thanks for all the advice everyone

How about taking the window measurements to Tap Plastics and having some acrylic/plexiglass cut there to fit? Then install it yourself using the proper molding and tools?

That's what sailboat owners do in replacing their boat portholes. 'Course they also caulk and through-bolt the thick plastic too.

if you use 1/4" thick POLYCARBONATE, instead of the plexiglass,.......if BB gun asswipe comes back he gets a lil surprise when the pellet/BB BOUNCES OFF!! :twofinger

the above suggestions for replacing the tempered glass with a plastic substitute are the way to go: cheaper, stronger, you can tint it to match the rest, yada yada

I'd get several cut while down at TAP, so you have spares in case there is a "next time"

Plexiglas is fine. However, it will scratch easier so in time it won't look as good. Put a good coat of polish on it. Be carefull when washing to always use water.

Auto and Residential glass shops can make custom tempered glass.
They cut to size regular glass. Then send it out to get it tempered.

Yeah finding a shop that will do that now, is either impossible. Or your wallet will feel like Mike Tyson had his way with it. :laughing

if you REALLY want tempered glass, give these guys a call,.....

http://www.southbayshowers.com/

they have made me several tempered glass pieces, and one was 36"X29", and only ran $45.

they can CNC cut corners, radius's, chamfer edges, anything you might want, even tints,...reasonably priced too.

I used to go to National Glass for all my glass needs. Its a regular glass shop, that sent out to have the glass tempered.
The glass was going to be exposed to heat(Halogen lights) so it had to be tempered. I tried cutting my own glass then using it near the halogens. It would crack every time. Besides being a safety glass, tempered can handle the heat :D

Now I just need thick beveled or rounded glass. I found out who they sent it out to, now deal directly with them. Heh it's a weird chaotic shop this guy has with glass dust an inch thick everywhere. :laughing

If you can find out who made the windows you could go directly to the manufacturer. Fleetwood uses windows made by Atwood and they're pretty reasonable. Since National RV no longer exists I'm not sure who made their windows. You could try going to this web site and asking there - I'm sure someone will be able to help out.

If you do it yourself, expect to pay 50% more for polycarbonate (e.g., Lexan) than acrylic (e.g., Plexiglas).

If you want it done, JC's RVs in Livermore should be able to either do it, or point you to the right place.

Thanks for all the reply's . I'm trying to get it sorted somewhere today.

This guy may have something

The guy basically has a RV graveyard. Out of Sacramento, so email him first. Be prepared to give him some measurements along with the year/model.
