The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has launched a formal investigation after a video was released Friday night showing what appears to be deputies beating a man with batons in the Mission District in San Francisco.

The video, released by the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office on Twitter around 5:30 p.m. Friday, shows two deputies striking a man on the ground repeatedly with batons after a pursuit.

The suspect then led deputies on a chase on Interstate Highway 580 into Oakland and then west toward San Francisco, crossing the Bay Bridge at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour, Kelly said. He exited the freeway in San Francisco, struck a parked car on a city street and fled on foot before his capture, which was captured on the video seen.

Rage filled cops in chase mode?

I don't think this guy is Rodney King, this guy did not appear to deserve a beating.

he evaded cops and endangered innocent lives. he deserved it

Wrong. The role of police is not to punish. Appropriate punishment is a decision of the court system. Police exist to enforce the law. When they go beyond such a role, we have problems.

This, seems to be an inherent problem with ongoing police beatings. Emotion not able to be kept in check, this is a proven phenomena. I wouldn't run from a cop though, I was just raised differently. :dunno

exactly.

He resisted and motioned like he was grabbing a weapon from his pants. You do realize the media only showed part of the video. After being tazed he attacked one of the officers.

The video starts after he had been "swarmed" once. Koons, I believe, called off the swarm. It was argued that when King stood up he staggered, or he lunged, which the Simi jury believed. Drunk, beaten, tazed, hardly an "attack", and like the officers in this video, those officers crossed the line. The "going for a weapon" came from the convicted officers, if you want to believe that, that's fine, but they did go back beating him like a pinata long after he gave up.

He wouldn't have been beaten if he complied. He resisted and attacked the officers. The world would have been better off if they would have shot him at the beginning.

Video TL;DW
When it comes to dealing with the Police, If you start with some shit, they will end it with the same.

I usually think the police go too far in their use of force, but in this case I don't really see a huge problem. They stopped hitting him when he stopped moving.

IS anyone feeling bad for this guy. With every blow the cops rained down lottery tickets on this guy. Your looking at SF's newest millionaire.

Millionaire because he survived. Some of these encounters have a very different end.
