So, I sell a lot of stuff on CL. I've been robbed once, for a cell phone. They subsequently caught the dumbass cause I got his license plate number and picked him out of a lineup. The kicker was he had to still pay me for what he stole, then do 30 days in county.

This experience made me a little paranoid about selling stuff, esp anything over $100.

Now I've got some No Doubt concert tickets I'm trying to unload, and they are $400 for the pair. I've got this guy who wants to buy them. His name is "Montana McKenzie", which is a totally odd name. He is in San Mateo. To me, this doesn't feel right....

So my question to you guys is, how should I go about protecting myself during this transaction? Leave tickets in car until he pays, bring my gun (dumb, joking), tell him to mail the funds to me since the concert isnt until July, or what?

I don't want to get ripped off. :(

If it feels wrong then it most likely is. Take a friend(s), or maybe meet inside a Starbucks and be sitting down waiting at a table - not in the parking lot. I buy a lot of ski lift tickets on craigslist and don't do about 1/3 of the deals because somethin' just aint right.

Sounds like the intro to a porn flick.

"My name is Montana, I just turned 18, and I'd do anything for some No Doubt tickets!"

About 2 weeks ago, a friend of mine (this took place in Fairfield) responded to an add on craigslist for flat screen TV's that were for sale.

He responded to the add, made a appointment to meet the seller. When he showed up to see the TV's, two guys jumped him, pointed guns at his head, took his wallet, cell phone and the $1000 dollars cash. :(

His wife and baby were in the car.

Pay the extra couple bucks and use stubhub. Let the 3rd party take care of it.

I was reading on another forum about a guy in Milpitas who was selling an Nav headunit for a car.

The guy handed him a sealed envelope and ran to the car with the head unit and burned rubber out of there. The envelope only had 10 $1 bills.

tell him to meet you outside of a gun range owned by your uncle the police chief

Just meet him inside a Starbucks, where you can count the money and exchange the tickets, instead of outside in the parking lot.

Dont carry cash , goto a store or coffee shop to make the exchange. Dont be an idiot? :twofinger

I bought an R6 of of CL in 06 for like $7300 cash...looking back I should have taken someone with me...luckily Ive never had any bad experiences with it.

I would meet the person at their bank...tons of cameras/people if shit gets hectic

just rob him before he robs you. preemptive strike.

According to ZabaSearch, a Montana McKenzie has an address in Sioux City, Iowa.

I've sold and given away stuff on CL. Met with one guy at a Berkeley coffee shop for one transaction. Sold him two expensive Nikon lenses. He checked them out and then handed me the money, which I counted out discreetly at the table. Worked out just fine.

every time ive sold big ticket items on craigslist ive actually taken a gun with me just to be safe. there was one time it looked as if the buyer was going to pull some shady stuff over some tickets to a show and all i did was lift my shirt a little by accident revealing a little flash of my hk and the guy decided he didnt want the tickets after all:teeth

be safe:thumbup

Meet only in places where there is plenty of people around , like a store parking lot or in a starbucks is a good place :thumbup

I don't know dude, I used to think the same, but people these days are so disconnected, and even ones who are paying attention and see something go down are unlikely to do anything to help. Probably just stand there and watch, like in the countless videos on youtube of someone getting beaten and bystanders walking by, shaking their heads.

I'll go with you and we'll both carry exposed :)

have a friend hiding in a corner point a red laser pointer at the buyer and tell him that you have someone watching your back and to look at the red dot on his chest. if he trys to rob you, he will end up with a hole the size of a tangerine where his heart used to be.

hahah jk jk

Police Station seems like a good idea or just bring a buddy.
