edit: oops. stomped on Climber. ;)

Thanks for the update, jrace. Mine was hand-typed from the motoGP site so yours is more complete. :thumbup

Interesting that de Puniet was leading the first couple days but couldn't lower his times after that. Does that mean that he was using qualifiers during those first two days and got blown away when others used them?

I'm in ! great thread ..

Yeah, but Hayden set his fastest time with the old engine, not the pneumatic valve engine he's supposed to race this year.

http://www.crash.net/motorsport/motogp/news/158940-0/hayden_fastest_-_with_the_'wrong'_bike!.html

I think HRC has screwed the pooch again this year. Too bad Nicky didn't go to Ducati when he had the chance.:kicknuts

I don't think Honda will run the pneumatic valve engine if they can't get it straight. By the time pre-season tesing is done they will have it sorted.

Why should he have gone to Ducati?? Stoner is the only fast guy on the Duc....look where Melandri is on the chart. Sure, it is early in testing, but HRC will step up and I think it is silly to give Ducati tooo much credit, Stoner won that championship, not the bike he was riding. The way he rode last year they could have put him on a 250 and he would have been up there. This will be a great season, lots of talented "name" riders, hopefully it will not be a landslide for anyone this year.

Stoner ran fabulously and flawlessly. :thumbup

....but the Ducati was a major factor in every drag down the straight. :ride

Lorenzo :wow

These guys *thought* they put the fire out, but wouldn't you know it, when you lift up a bike off the ground and onto it's wheels, the fuel is going to drain out onto the hot exhaust pipes. Voila, instant Satay. These guys ended up fine, just singed eyebrows. Those are sunglasses coming off his face. First mistake was coming in towards the machine and not smelling the race fuel . . . . because believe me, that stuff is potent! For all you CW's out there, keep up the good work and leave the burnt roaches to roast for a while after you've put out the flames. The inconnel pipes we're using run red hot, and they stay hot . . .

this is why I wear cotton when corner working

synthetics like nylon and polypropylene do a great job of wicking sweat and keeping you comfortable on a hot day but when exposed to a flash burn they melt, stick to the skin and cause nasty burns

Four Yamaha bikes in the top eight is the biggest news. Maybe they are finally going to make this bike competitive after all - sure hope so as it will make for much more interesting racing this year. If Edwards can make something happen, though doubtful, he'll be the most sought after autobiographer in the MotoGP pits.

And the whole Ducati thing remains mystifying. Though he is not the most consistent guy out there, I believe that Melandri is among the top three in terms of sheer racing talent. Yet he joins what is becoming a pretty long list of guys who just cannot make the Ducati work for them - including Capirossi! But it is early days still.

The one variable not factored in is the relative lack of grip that everybody was mentioning at Sepang. The next test will reveal more, but kudos to Nicky, Edwards and and Hopper! Three Yanks in the top 5, each with a different manufacturer. 2008 could be great.

Hmmm...interesting stuff.

Take those top four finishers in the Sepang test in 2007 and compare their results with the final 2007 standings. Three out of the four finished in the top four spots - only Stoner did not show up, probably because he had barely ridden the Ducati at all by then. And Vermeulen finished 5th in the test and 6th in the championship.

"Testing means very, very little especially this early in the pre-season." Maybe, maybe not.

OK. Take the top four from today:

1. Nicky HAYDEN (Honda) 2:00.326
2. Casey STONER (Ducati) 2:00.660
3. Jorge LORENZO (Yamaha) 2:00.766
4. Colin EDWARDS (Yamaha) 2:01.179

I guess it's possible with four world champions contending. Leaves a few someones out of this mix, though.....

Guess we have to wait for awhile and see. Bookmark this post. ;)
