so im trying to figure out how to set my suspension for my liking.. Lately i have been doing a lot of off roading, dirt jumps, wheelies, etc.. not so much canyon carving. If i hit jumps big enough the bike will bottom out the suspension and feel like complete shit. What do i need to change? do i need that big rear shock tool to adjust spring stiffness? I had my bike setup by a pro before.

Do yourself a favor and learn to do it yourself. Start with rear spring, then front spring, then learn how rebound and compression works. You'll be an expert in no time.

Right off the top, it sounds like what needs changing is how you jump, throttle use and body position.

Have you done MX? Or is this a starter in dirt?

i did motocross for 8 years. Im not new to jumping thats why im trying to figure what it is that could be wrong.. let me rephrase it not 100% bottoming out but it feels like it compresses alot more then im used to.. Maybe its due to the weight difference!?

Ummm, this compression happening just on rear shock? Front coming down easy, with the power holding it Up?

If this is just a rear shock issue...I'd be hot footing it down to A Dirt Bike suspension Guru, and have them spring and adjust damping for that spring..as a quickie.

yeah the front is fine. It's just the rear. C&R suspension would do it right?

by C&R do you mean catalyst reaction? i took my dirt bike to Jim and it was just as amazing a change as when I brought my street bike to him. same concepts i guess, just different goals for riding.

My front fork was way too stiff, and the rear shock was sagging, sounds like a similar issue to yours. he balanced it out and now I can land HARD on it and still steer right after that :thumbup

edit: by "hard" i don't mean casing a jump, i mean landing on a really steep transition that's already downhill and it compresses the bike so hard it's shaking hahaha

Could be spring rate, could be compression valving, could just be not enough preload. No way to know over the internet. I'd take it to a pro but ask them to walk you through the changes and teach you how to adjust it yourself. Dave at Catalyst and James at Superplush are both great, as I'm sure are others who I have no direct experience with.

Cool thanks for the feedback guys. I will call Dave and see what he can do.
