SF Parking Crackdown / Ferry Building

I don't take public transportation in San Francisco. I find it to be appalling compared to other cities that I have spent time in. I travel by riding my motorcycle, every day, and therefore patronize businesses that are convenient in this respect.

For perhaps four years now I have ridden down to the FT to visit the market. I buy quite a bit, to feed my entire household for the week. The convenience of the close proximity parking for the moto parking that we have all been using for the past years has made the FT Market the best one for me to visit.

It is not about 'paying for parking', it's about the fact that this spot has gone unticketed for YEARS, and simply because DPT hasn't made enough money off the good citizens and visitors to SF, they are cracking down everywhere and anywhere they can.

Due to the crackdown on parking, I will be finding a new, more convenient
farmer's market to attend, since I will not stop riding to the market.

I also wanted to given other people a heads up since there are often between 5 and 15 bikes parked in this location.

That is as clear as I can be.
Your logic makes no sense.

You should count yourself lucky for breaking the law for so many years without being caught.

Just pay the damn ticket.

come on now. i'm not sure what other cities you ever lived in but it's the same *everywhere*.
so let me get this straight. you screwed up by parking in spot where you shouldn't park got towed b/c of it and it's somehow the cities fault? yeah it sucks i know, it's happened to me too but really take some respnsibility.

the hatez for the sf dpt is seriously impacting part of the brain on some of you that dictates some modicum of logic.

and what exactly isn't worth it? if you hate it so much don't ever come in to the city (using your (ill)-logic here. :rolleyes

Been to a shit load of them........I'm old. Some are the same but not all. Not relevant anyway because we are talking S.F.

Where in the hell did I not "take responsibility"? The "street sweeping" is bull shit, the sign is not posted in such a fashion that ppl will see it, the phone number is out of date and w/ the trucks at the top of the hill ready to sweep down and grab as much revenue as possible at exactly 4:00, it is obvious it is a scam to collect $...........but I posted "my bad". Recognizing that I parked in a no parking zone.

"don't ever come into the city"? Fuck.......I thought that was my point.:laughing The greed is costing those that are trying to run a decent business......

fail to compute.
wow so much fail to your response i can't even respond any further.

Not that it matters to me, since this posting was to help prevent my fellow riders from getting tickets like many did last weekend, but perhaps you should simply stop posting if you have issues with comprehension?

Did you even read the original article?
Let me give you the cliffnotes in order to simply for your reading comprehension level:
1) SFMTA is has ticketing goals.
2) The are currently behind because people don't show up to work because being a meter maid is depressing (inferred)
3) SFMTA there is targeting new areas to improve ticket numbers.

Not exactly sure why you and Willie be are jumping to defend the SFMTA so strongly. I have no beef with individual enforcers, but I posted this article and thread to draw attention to a larger policy based issue with the way the system runs.

So far the best post in this thread is:
Why not just lay off enough of the the meter maids until they save themselves 7.5 million $ in wages and pensions? Frees up some tax revenue too.

My apologies that you fail to comprehend my logic, but again this isn't an attempt to get you to shop/park/move in the manner to which I am accustom.

I count myself lucky for being able to use a rocking parking location for year to get some of the best ingredients I have ever cooked with.

I didn't get a ticket, I am simply trying to help prevent others from getting tickets.

What is your reasoning for attempting contribute?

Because I am a bigger fan of taxing out-of-towners who can't park right than I am in seeing my own property taxes go up. So, yes, I defend the DPT and the poor folks how have to do that job.

MTA, is a completely different thing. It's metropolitan, covering the ENTIRE BAY AREA, not just San Francisco.

Did you read the article?
I am referencing SFMTA because the agency that I am questioning the policies of is in fact the SFMTA...

Perhaps you should get off your high horse as a San Francisco Property Owner chastising the bridge & tunnel masses?

Out of towners............:rofl

So they don't "tax", your words, city dwelers? Hell, you can tell who the locals are, due to the rashed up bumpers. If it wasn't for the shitty schools I might have even considered living in the city and I would be concerned about the overly aggresive (according to your leo) parking enforcement. And you don't think businesses losing customers to anywhere else in the Bay Area will not cause taxes to go up? Stay in your little bubble and belive that the city is all that. It used to be and there is some cool shit there. Once in a while it's even worth putting up w/ the bull shit but if you don't think the greed is costing you......well enjoy your fairytale.

edit: Hell, if all I had to worry about was having my 86 shadow towed I would not give a shit either. let them keep the damn thing.

Let's not talk trash about the city to get your point across please!
Although I wouldn't worry about a towed 86 shadow either....

It appears TommyWillB actually just read the article and original post, causing him to delete the majority of his posts?

PSA: SFMTA is now ticketing bikes in those locations, as recently as today, 11/6/2010.

that suxxors, thank you for teh info.

I like the frikken idiotic "to make up for less-than-expected revenue from parking citations" part

Remind me why I hate SF again... :|

I think it's cuz you're sour grapes...???

Didn't mean to trash San Francisco. Have spent a lot of time there since my DOB and seriously considered buying a home w/in the city when I moved back from Ventura. Used to live there w/ a great view of coit tower the bridge and the Bay. Unfortunately I have 2 school age kids now and the schools left a lot to be desired as did the state of public transportation as well as some other issues. This parking b.s. is just another annoyance. The additional cost of pvt school for both of them just made the trade off not worth it. The City still has a lot to offer but the council sure is doing everything they can to fuck it up.

Picked up a home where it is, in part, so that I could easily enjoy the City w/o having to put up w/ the bull shit. Of course now that tummywillb has kicked me out I'm at a total loss as to what to do. Perhaps just sneek the boat over to south beach marina and tie up when he's not looking.

I'm with you on that man. The city is not what it used to be...

Non-SF people -- please. Make separate threads about how moss beach or Oakland is supposedly so f-kin awesome--so much, that there aren't even any metermaids. Cuz nobody needs to go there.
Apart from when Hwy 1 or 880 are jam packed with traffic of course.

Obviously , the SF port is run by someone from Oakland.. so he hates on the SF shops and parkers.

Back on f-kin topic, this parking change does not make THAT much of a difference to me, hey I can walk. Amazingly, walking still exists. (last few times I've been to the Ferry Building by walking)

No need to get defensive or bag on Moss Beach or Oakland :wtf Yeh, hwy 1 is crowded due to all the S.F. ppl coming over to HMB on the weekends and the wantabe politicians drove the city into bankrupcy (you forgot to mention that one). Oakland...........? Hell, the boat was in Alameda 1 week when a bullet from Oakland landed on the dock steps at 11 pm.

Damn, some of you city ppl are more butt hurt than the H.D. and Duc crowd when the topic comes up.

Did you miss the part ................oh fuck never mind.
