On Wednesday, state senators voted 21 to 8 in support of SB 847, authored by Sen. Brian Dahle (R-Yuba City), which exempts the religious group from wearing the helmets, as long as the rider is wearing a turban, or has a patka, which is a cloth covering over a small, knotted bun on the top of their head.

Seems ripe for a no helmet requirement for everyone- or face religious discrimination?

Pretty amazing.

WOW is all I can say. I know a few HD riders who will be sporting a patka. Handmade on Etsy.

This is moving into the realm of the "Church of Body Modification" :wtf

Nothing.... absolutely nothing.... surprises me in California anymore. :rofl

This should provide some interesting discussions.

So who's down to start a religion that mandates wheelies every 5 minutes when you are riding a motorcycle?

There is the armored Tough Turban. The main helmet manufacturers might capitalize on making a certified product tailored to that need tho.

This is a weird one, which is 1st A issues vs why did California institute a mandatory helmet law?

I always wear a helmet and have no personal issue with our law, but my opinion is not shared by every rider.

Is it your right to express yourself that you want to have a serious head injury if you crash?

The picture of the Sikh Legends meeting the Hells Angels on the road and the Sikh bros not wearing helmets would be quite priceless.

Hilarious.

Aren't there other religions that make a religious statement with headgear.

Why, yes, yes there are.

Generally speaking, religion isn't a free pass to do whatever you want and there would seem to be obvious constitutional issues with religious favoritism.

^^:thumbup

fans of of our Fed constitution and BoR—and those of us who just follow along at home—are not so sure. :laughing:angel
