So, in starting what seems to be my bazzillionth attempt at quitting smoking I have decided to take a smoking cessation class which begins next Thursday. I have never tried this method nor know anyone whom has, so I gots to know if any of you guys and dolls have taken a similar class and whether it was successful or not?? Plus, what should I expect in my two hours a week for eight weeks ??

Thank you kindly BARFers and BARFettes !!

:)

I could just punch you in the mouf every time you light up. Negative reinforcement for the win!

WHy not just go get a RX for budeprion. Every cig will make you feel ill.

My doc would like to use that as a last resort. He would rather see me quit without the assistance of other drugs if possible.

i think its crap, but maybe it works for some people.
I see no point in ever talking about feelings.

Can u jsut get some wellbutrin without the classes?

Ahh, so its like AA for smokers ?!?! Great.

I'll see how it goes and if it isnt my cup of tea my doc and I will be having a lil talk about a 'script.

I took the class years ago and quite honestly it was a total, complete waste of my fooking time. Also very hard to stay awake=BORING
I'm trying to quit too. Good luck.

budeprion = wellbutrin :)

Regardless I got the script killed a 10 year habit in 6 months. Been clean 4 years now.

hmmm, now i want a prescription! not that i ever smoke or anything :p

I know my generic drugs! Thing is it will make you silly if you drink while taking it. So I don't know how loopy or what not your are when your sloshed.

Use only as directed by your doctor!

Just use the patch!!! I did, twice, and it worked both times. I've been smoke free since August, 19th 2007. But, you have to be mentally ready to quit, otherwise, it's a waste of time. And don't kick it around a bunch of chain smokers, otherwise it's too tempting!!! I hope you stick with it!!! You'll feel tons better and you save so much money!!!! Good for you!!!!!!!!!!!

Are there any side effects I should be concerned about ??

Adverse events commonly encountered in patients treated with WELLBUTRIN are agitation, dry mouth, insomnia, headache/migraine, nausea/vomiting, constipation, and tremor.

If those are too much, we can always go back to punching you in the mouf :)

I'm ready to quit, I have been for a couple months, but wanted to make absolute sure this is what I'm ready to do and it is. I wanna get back into playing hockey and mountain biking and smoking does not make it easy to do.

I'll keep y'all posted on my progress. :thumbup

And congrats to you, keep up the good work !!

Not too bad of side effects, so I may hafta check that stuff out. :thumbup

My GF just started the classes at UCSF like a week ago. I quit cold turkey in November.

You should quit drinking booze for a while. It was always something that went together for me.

Now when I drink I don't want a smoke anymore.

Oh and watch your caloric intake. You''l probably eat more cuz of the oral fixation.

I put on a ton of weight when I quit. I'ms tillw okring it off :p

I subbed cigs for chocolate!

I dont drink a lot to begin with, so thats not gonna be a problem. I enjoy a pint or two here and there, but I dont go out to drink to get drunk.

I'm gonna do toothpicks, which helped me the last time I quit, helps with the oral and hand fixation !!

Good luck! I know nothing about the classes but I'm trying to kick the habit myself. Smoke free since New years eve at exactly 11:35pm! :teeth

I realized one of my main reasons for smoking was to get away from my desk during the day. So I still take the breaks just without the smoke. I'll go down and watch my friends smoke and feel just as satisfied.

Also start excercising more. I'm doing 4 days a week in the gym instead of my usual 2. The more you work out and start feeling good about yourself the less you feel the need for the smoke. For me at least! :thumbup
